I've got my pitchfork and torch ready and waiting in the corner should this 'mystery project' displease me.

Nah, I kid, I'm sure it'll be great whatever it is. If nothing else you can say you got me to participate in something around here.

@[thUg], We think adding palettes to the gallery might get crazy. We do however think we should have a palette thread on the forum to exchange, explore and learn/teach from. This is on the current to-do list.

I was thinking that would be nice if there was a 8, 16 and 32 volors palettes gallery on PJ, with a rating system from "quite unusable" to "really usefull" for members, where members can post their palettes and vote. It's just a idea, I know it's certainly lot of work and place to make this kind of thing. I have to say it, because I'm maybe not the only one that always know what I want to draw but don't know which colors to choice. That's why I"m happy with certain challenge when a palette is given.

@ Ambient, click the link above to the forum thread details. It ends this friday night US-E Midnight.

Well I don't expect time to do this, but I'd really enjoy messing with this. Can you give us a time for when this ends? (like 12:00AM Pacific Saturday morning)

I bet it will take ages to judge all that.

Dude, enough, seriously.

Met, get your head out of your ass :P

A unique + original palette may be one with a definitive set of overtones, or one with a range of colors which remains somewhat monochromatic, you can define a palette that centers from neutrals bases to increase that palette's ability. Oh I dunno, the possibilities are endless. Is nitpicking a simple community activity called for.

Judging is quite simple really, let's say we have a project that has a perticular theme and this theme is say...your pink Hello Kitty bedroom...the winning palette would be one whose colors have some degree of saturation yet soft, a plus would be if enough colors are there to draw whites. Or what if its an underwater theme? Or a football stadium?

This is no major contest at all, it has 3 sole purposes:

• Giving out rare trophies for fun.

• Encourage all to develop refined color palettes which is a crucial PA skill.

• Force everyone to explore one given set palette in an upcoming PJ project.

We could have easily enough picked 16 colors on our own and be done with it, jeez.

What makes a unique + original winner from these?

One person shows 16 pretty colors but their ability to interact is limited and making good ramps from them is very limited.

One person picks 16 ugly-ass colors that can be extended to work as if it had more colors and has the ability to jump from shade to shade with harmony.

how can a 16 color palette can be unique or original besides wich colors are selected. the sole moment someone selects a diferent set of colors at RGB level from the rest of the entries it does become unique and original, unless someone else submits the exact set.

how can we then judge what makes a particular palette unique and original from the rest? just picking colors that no one else did? can i just pick someone else's palette and alter one color to make the whole palette unique?

Wait, wait, wait, we're only submitting a palette? Sweeet, finally something up my skill level!

I wanna get the #3 spot. I don't care what I actually get, I just one THAT trophy.

Just making sure it's allowed. I made a new palette and maybe I'm going to find some of my old palettes and submit them aswell, if it's allowed.

Quality vs. Quantity

user
Peeter (Level 3 Enforcer) at 9/3/2010 1:27:48 PM

Can I submit multiple palettes?

user
jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) at 9/3/2010 1:21:08 PM

DawnBringer, 3 members will get 1-2-3 place but only 1 will get the honorable mention 'the cool thumbs-up' one. Unlike weekly challenges where everyone gets the green ribbon after 3rd place.

No hints because we are hoping for a color set without biases or preconceptions. Just make a great, unique and original palette that WOWs

user
DawnBringer (Level 10 Maniac) at 9/3/2010 1:17:03 PM

I like that thumbs-up one. But I'm confused; what do you mean with "honorable mention for the best looking"...is there one prize or four?...

Making a palette for an unknown purpose is like a crapshoot in the dark... can't we get a little hint? :D
