Haha, the guy with the red hair is Hak Foo, a bad guy in the series. 

I was planning on doing a Jackie sprite as well as some of the other characters in the series; I'm not sure if I can pull off what you have in mind but that sounds cool so I'll try my hand at it tomorrow. I assume you're going to do Jackie Chan(the guy with red hair isn't him is he?). You should draw him in a figting stance/pose. Maybe have a scene where he is doing a flying kick into another sprite. I took a break from the robot because it was frustrating me a bit (I was trying to refrain from adding more colors but it might need the extra colors, I'm not sure), but here are some tiny jackie chan adventures pixels I've been working on. I don't like how Jade came out but I wanted to make them all in scale with each other.



Maybe I should try and add an outline to jade so she fits in better?

Try smoky black clouds and dark green, scorch-marked hills. You have a little too much low saturated blue in this piece. I tried fixing the background lighting but I'm not sure if I did it right.


I originally dithered the background hills, but it looked awful to me so I removed the dithering. Here's a version with the dithering on the background hills.

I'm a bit clueless as to what to do with the background. It still feels like it needs work? (Aside from the fact that the parts I have need to be cleaned up)

I attempted dithering with the sky but I really suck at it.

I think to bring in the sky colors elsewhere I'm going to add a town on fire or something similar to the left part of the image.

Try the sky for the red: maybe a light yellow turning into a red, like it's afternoon or something. Thank you for the advice Airstyle! I did this yesterday to practice choosing colors. (It's still really rough)



I feel like I should try and work the red in elsewhere but I'm not sure where. I also want to add something to the left half but I haven't decided on that yet, maybe some ruins or a city.

Be brave. Try different colors you may think is wrong just for the heck of it. You may find that you like it more. I suggest looking at Mrmo Tarius', A3um's, and Jinn's stuff. Their palettes are amazing. Hello! I've been trying to practice my spriting skills but I'm not that great yet. I think my biggest problem is that my colors lack contrast; though I'm able to notice this I've been having a lot of trouble overcoming it.







(The first one is supposed to be Anton Papierwaite from Sam and Max: The Devil's Playhouse; there's a spoiler in that link if you've not played SaM:TDP. The second one has original characters, and the third is just some random robot thing based off of the robot in the second image.)

Critique and advice on how to push myself to get more contrast in my colors would be appreciated!
