The scarab is very hard to notice.
Right now it looks like a snowman with a scarf in the wind.

Not sure how you would fix it though, sorry.

Just wondering what others see...
I'm working on my winter PJ avvy for this year and can't tell howobvious my scarab is in this. Is the second arm even needed (in the middle image)? Does itlook too wierd? BG or no BG? If you saw this alone would you even seemy scarab at all?

Good palette management is really important. For indexed images, you have to be able to adjust the 256 color palette. This means if you change the color on the palette, it updates the entire picture. I think maybe the eyes being colored in the greens makes them dissappear. Try the purpley, black and the lightest yellow THEN highlight with the brightest green.

Sorry for taking such a long time, I got mixed up in all kinds of time consuming stuff. Still, that's no excuse for not even saying thanks for the feedback and edit for two damn months. Thanks for the feedback and edit, and apologies. :(

I was trying to go for a melting look/tar-like goop, and your edit was pretty much what I was after. I suppose I was too preoccupied with dithering the living daylights out of everything I couldn't visualize it.

If you would still care to comment, here's what I have. I tried to figure out what to do with the other arm - I tried swords, spears, knives, axes and such but they just didn't seem right. So.. now there's a wick.
