Message

   Theres some amazing pixel artists on the web and this seems to be the site they all used to meet on. Sadly many of the older masters seem to have hung up their mouses and moved on. Pixel art is important and this place was once a hive of activity. I want to become a regular contributor to this site.

I'm currently drawing stuff for a project in ms paint and would like feedback on it. I draw realistic work and heres what I want you to comment on.

My content is adult so I've tagged it appropriately, I hope that satisfies the staff here.

	It won't be allowed in the gallery but the wip thread should be fine. blood looks a little too purple. man seems to lack a little chin. any references?

	I used 4/5 ref pics for this one. He is an older subject so the chin fat is a little heavier than normal. Not sure about the blood looking purple but I'll be sure to get another pair of eyes to check that out. Feedback both good and bad is welcome. Who are the big hitters in terms of art here? Active members that is.

	the reference pictures would be helpful in critiquing the work (especially anatomical critiques). here's the member list, you can arrange it according to most favorites received or most art submitted, it'd be difficult to give a list without leaving tons out.

I'm really not here to shock but to learn and improve. You have some fantastic talent on here and your archives have some real stars of the pixel world I've watched for some time. The rules are now clear and I'll make sure I tag my work appropriately and don't dump anything in the wrong place . A couple of requests just up for references might be a bit tricky as they are hardcore BDSM porn. I don't want to push my luck. 	Yes, I'm sure this will post some challenges for you, hehe. When working on a piece if you are uninterested in sexy Hello Kitty art then you can always post a section of your art that shows nothing too OTT. You seem bright, smart, intelligent and being creative is no problem for you. I doubt you'll push your luck but if anything I'll/we'll let you know. Must say I don't know what NSFW means in your thread title but something like NUDITY - SEXY or more obvious label would work best. ...what about the children _____ About your art... with both people having the same color skin the story fails for me. He could be greener (light cast), she could be dirtier, he could look slimier. Dunno, right now its all slick, polished, posed and fails to go 'there' which no doubt is where you want it to be, no?

	NSFW= not safe for work. It's a widely recognised tag for tasty threads. I could tag it WBYC (will break your children) but I doubt that will be as obvious. I guess I could actually draw something nice. Also had a look at your site and folder and I saw some very nice things. Always like zooming in on the high quality stuff to try and steal some secrets.

	Technically speaking, this is pretty good, you have a lot of talent and I think it would be a shame that most most people can't appreciate it just because of the actual content. I've got no problem looking at this though ;)

The only thing would scare me is that thing the girl has in the head....that guy is a real psycopath.. 	well this is an interesting thread. - - - I agree with what jal said about everything looking so squeaky clean. I think there could be more of a separation between the back of the neck and the underside of the cranium, the back of the cranium may need to be enlarged a tad. Chin should probably project outwards a bit more. The wrinkle closest to the chin creates too much of a triangle I think, let it swoop back a bit more. Also might want to tone down those lines a little, they draw too much attention atm. Shadows don't multiply, as you have them doing beneath his arm. This area is actually 2 shadows cast from 2 different lightsources. You could use a lot more contrast and definition in the figures, they seem a bit washed out. Even the reference has better definition, and it's kinda expected that a photograph like this will lose a bit with the strong lighting. Angle of the table that the finger is on doesn't make any sense to me. Strange how the tiles angle down but each individual tile is itself straight. The hair is a weak point. Try defining clumps (large strands) of hair, maybe that will help. I assume the ropes will be resolved later. The red smile looks like it was drawn on top of the image rather than on the bag. Perhaps due to this being a WIP. Girl's ribs look weird. Edited by cure - 27 December 2010 at 10:05am

	Thats the kind of crit I'm after, thank you very much. One problem I have is an old crt monitor which doesn't tend to give me as much clarity as I'd like for the details. Aside from that I would agree on most points. The tiles I graded down on the joints to hopefully make the horizontal grout lines not look like a ladder but that seems to have failed. The chin lines are a little too pronounced. For things like the red smile would a bit of manual anti-aliasing help?

	the red is probably too saturated and could be affected by the shadows of the bag a bit more. manual aa would also help, yes.

Seeing your more "freehand" work makes me think you can create pieces without a photo ref.

Thanks for that, the girl's face is mine! The body isn't sadly. On the topic of ref pics well thats a tough one. I can do comic stuff without any refs but when I try to draw without refs for the detailed stuff it all goes a bit goo. I usually use up to 10 different refs for pics and take different bits from them as a guide. The 1st pic in my OP was unusual as I mainly used 1 ref for the characters.

	refs are part of what feels good. It's a bit like drawing somebody's portrait. Most of my stuff feature people I know and work with on this stuff. Failing offers to model I pose myself. Sadly I can't really dump much of my other stuff as its people getting ripped up and raped. This is a family forum! Robot Godzilla, I'll have to see if I can weave that into what I'm working on.

	LOL, for some reason when Jal said 'violent porn' I laughed. The works themselves are great. I couldn't work out if she was getting murdered or raped or what. But seeing as he said violent porn I guess she is! 	Ok, first off a big thanks to staff for not just wiping me off the board, they seem bright enough to realise I'm genuinely here to improve. The web is a great place to find people to work with and when I've got this project I'm working on out of the way, I plan on drawing something clean for your iso project. 	Honestly, the actual content of the pictures is sort of disgusting to me, as I'm with Delicious about not really digging a lot of violence in pornography, but thats just my opinion. The actual work is great. I feel that you could use a little more detailing on some parts, but overall its great, especially if they are just WIPs.

	It is said that the girl is ugly. But all I can see is a paper bag? Are you implying she is so ugly that a paper bag had to be placed on her head? Or have I missed a previous edit? Shouldn't matter if the person is ugly or not, that's not really contructive feedback at all. (Is this considered off topic? I'm just trying to get some clarity here)

	Ok heres one I've been labouring over for a good while now. I've tried to have a play with a couple of different techniques, especially round the face using a bit of dithering. Its new to me so that was really more of a test to see the effect. As always some feedback and crit would be warmly appreciated.

	just my 2cents. this little devil baby needs to be closer towards her right leg. when i step back and look at this, i see a un-natural angle the little dude is coming from. i can see this is from a dudes perspective. Almost the angle we guys go number 1. Where as a female , its more of a downward angle. So id say, tuck the little dude in some more. chad

	Well since I bothered to look I may as well critique. Those wings don't look a thing like wings. Thanks for the help. Interesting what you have said there as well. The girl was taken from a photo ref but the wings and demon were drawn from mind. This seems to have made them look like they are cut and paste. The pic won't be updated any longer as it does the job it needs to do for the project I'm working on. The info I've got from this thread will come in very useful on my next drawing which will be similar in style and content.

	I saw your reference at pixelation. It seems youve mistaken some of the reflected light (which is part of the shadow, not the light) for midtones. Some of your midtones also seem too light. Your skin tones are frankly kind of boring. Try looking at some good photos and analyze the skin tones. For example your shadows seem kind of dull and greyish. In the reference they are darker, but also richer and more saturated. look at the pretty extreem difference in value between the left and right sides of the leg, which you have made the same. Thats what I was talking about before, its making the lighting somewhat confusing. Also look at your reference again and notice the contours. For example look at all the subtle moving in and out of the contour on the leg, whereas you have gotten rid of most of the subtlety.

	It's so hard getting it right but the difference in the leg is quite clear when you highlight it. The difference is much greater than I thought.
