@offwhite I'm no expert at animation but a jiggle might help with the hair moving a frame behind the base as it catches up ie when the body goes up the fro goes down and vice versa. And / Or maybe moving the texture on the hair up and down so it looks like it is changing shape / coming forward... Hairy food. Mmm no.
@ photocopier thats a cool cat with a big hair ball. Did you consider having the ears popping out the top of the fro?

Little update. Thinking of animating a bit of guitar playing.

@Gavralcraw: I tried the jiggle thing and it helped. But I still haven't gotten the hang of it yet :/ Anyway I'm going for a discoish scenery. Something like this

@ offwhite - nice muff bounce. I tend to agree that it is getting a bit busy with the lasers and the strobe. Maybe look towards Saturady night fever - a glowing 70's disco floor or dullish light beams cutting the smoke in the background. Or maybe on oven theme (fire in the background). Meh, Maybe this would be too busy too...

This is my first post, and my first comp, and my first pixel art ever uploaded to the site. I'm posting my WIP so I can make myself finish this project I started yesterday.

I scaled it to 4x because I think it's viewed best at that size. And because win7 hates animated gifs.

Basically, it's me in pixel form. I've been told I have an afro, or a jewfro on numerous occasions. Since "jewfros" were in the linked wiki article, I'm hoping that's fine for the comp. Fros of all sizes, right?

Anyway, that's what I really wanted an opinion on. I'm still in the line art stage, then I'll do fills and shading. I did the body parts early, though, so hopefully you guys get a sense of the 3d spin effect. You're really cramping my style with this 16 color limit, though.


EDIT: Apparently my website (which was hosting the image) just went down. Hopefully it wasn't traffic from this site? I've never had this problem before...

I'm trying to fix it asap.

No, I don't have a mullet. Maybe it's not obvious that it's curly? Or that lower part that sticks out is too big?

My hair is closer to this. Maybe not quite as big, but definitely as curly.


I'll try shading it to make it more obvious, if I can find a few free color slots. As it stands, I'm already at 18...

And thanks for the compliments. But I'm from the northeast, so calling my hairstyle a mullet is kind of an insult...

Here's mine so far.  Trying to get the readability better he seems to be getting lost in the background a bit.

@Nate - My advice would be to tone down the highlights in the background as much as you possibly can. Also, that is really looking great :D

Nnngh... I can't chose!! They both look great. You should make a double pic outside the challenge. Maybe with a mirror between them, so it'll look like they're reflecting each other?

ms. sun is a lot better imo.  The yellow works much better with the rest of the palette, and the roundness actually is sun-like, whereas you don't really get a sense of the moon in ms. moon.

It runs smoothly on my in the animation program, but is really slow when viewed elsewhere. Anyone know what can be done about it?

Yeah, I'm thinking of making the hair engulf the whole figure in the end and then fall down to become the pile of dirt in the beginning.
