I know what you're all thinking. "Why, CELS, have you gone almost a week without drawing more pixel art with clouds and tiny mountain tops?" Well, the waiting is over. Here is my next piece.

Right now, the picture is definitely missing something. It's just an empty stage. I will be adding some characters shortly.

And I do realize that the bonfire is horrendous.

I'd say having a guy next to the cliff, arms out and laying flat in mid-air with his clothes fluttering upwards in the wind would be an interesting addition to the piece. :D
Other than that, again far and away a brilliant piece. Your clouds already have great form even at a basic outline and I'm glad that you've opted for a coniferous tree as opposed to the oft-used tree made of clumps of round, green balls.

Eager to see the end result. :)

the grass is defenitly better.

I liked the other fire more, but could use more detail.

I expect you are still working on the clouds and background but they need some kind of dithering effect. not too much tho.

I really feel the green from the tree especially is too bright / unnatural compared to a real tree. But could be on purpose, as it is art and cant twist about taste.

What I like the most is the lineart. Especially the clouds and the rough edge on side the mountain.

Hehe, that's always a possibility. And then have roadrunner sticking out his tongue behind him, perhaps. Meep meep.

Thanks! I must admit, I was tempted to go for the traditional ball trees.

I will definitely work a bit more on those things.

Oh, indeed. It's just a result of me changing the colours back and forth. Hope you like the new version.

Thanks, I'm happy it turned out ok. I've been having a lot of trouble trying to draw rocky surfaces.

QUESTION: Should I just leave the robed dude staring off into the thunderstorm, or should I use these two dragons. I'm worried that this might be too crowded with the dragons. But two dragons fighting mid-air in a thunderstorm is all kinds of epic.

Made some minor changes and reduced the number of colors.

Looking great, CELS, the dragons fighting in the sky really make it epic. One detail I might nitpick though, I think there should be a kind of...lump in front the robed guy where the robe bunches over his feet/shoes. But it's really a stylistic choice as it looks great anyway.

my first impression was that you could use more space by creating distance between the dragons with a long range attack.

It might just be taste but when they're so close its hard to let them do anything while you could create more epic ness in the allready epic picture (?)

Just a idea or even personal taste maybe. I love the progress too!

Small add edit:
For some reason I feel the left side of the artpiece could be darker and make it look cooler. Im not sure how it would be done and / or if it could work

Thanks. I'll try it out and see how it looks. I'm thinking that because of the angle, the feet shouldn't be too noticeable. If you have good posture, your chest will reach almost as far as your toes. Example. But I'll try it out.

Thanks! That's true. I did consider that before I ended up drawing them like this. I was just worried that it would be too much going on in such a small area. Also, I wanted to keep them relatively close to the 2/3 mark, vertically and horizontally.

There's also the problem of size. The dragons are relatively small and with so few pixels to work with, I have no idea how to let the dragon reflect the light from the lightning bolt, and I'm thinking that the extra light source of a huge fireball will be tricky. That is... unless someone would show me with an edit

I'll try that out. It's actually something I've been thinking about, but I wasn't successful. The high contrast on the trunk of the tree made it look less round.

try to put on a black layer with photoshop and just turn down the opacity and see if it gives you any ideas. :D

to be honest i really dislike the trees bark. It makes me keep thinking of a human muscle. I do like how the dragons seem to be locked together talon to talon. Maybe make one shooting flames, and the other deflectimg off his or her wing.

Maybe I'll try adding some flames to the dragons, but again I'm worried that it won't look good due to the small size. It's going to be very hard getting the lighting right, with my limited skills.

I do agree with you regarding the tree bark. I've borrowed the texture from other pixelart, but at this scale it's not quite what i was going for. It would look better if the tree was much bigger. I'm going to try something else.

Before I got my laptop for school, I used Gimp and MS Paint (okay, before I stopped having time to pixel, I just used Gimp and MS Paint. :P). Gimp's free, and pretty awesome imo. It's good for layering, transparency, and animation. I also dink with my colors using the contrast filter when I'm dull. But you can grab the program from Gimp.org if you're interested. ^^

Also. Jeesh, you're amazing. Every time I pop on here to check on people's wips and ogle their finished pieces, you get better and better.

Cheers. I've got GIMP now, so it should make a few things easier!

That's definitely the best pixelart compliment I've received. Thanks so much :)

Hope you have time to pixel again soon. I really enjoy your creativity!
