Hello Pixeljoint community,

I am still trying to develop a roguelike game. So I'll need a menu to create the player character and this is what I came up with:

In my opinion the menu looks too futuristic and cold. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix that?

BTW: Here is a link to the thread with "in game" graphics of my roguelike. It might help to get some impressions for the desired look and feel: My Roguelike Thread.

It's already great, you could add colors. I would replace the +/- symboles of the face and hair by arrows and change the gender selection for a male and female icon.

Thank you for your opinions,

@Rayovatron: You're right! The arrows look much better than plus and minus. Thanks for that. I am not sure about the gender icons, though. Maybe I just don't like their location... Hmmm... Have to think about it.

I tried to play with the colours and that's what I came up with so far:

To be honest: I only like the third one. If you have some suggestions I would appreciate to see a corresponding mini layout, too. ;-) (I am not good with colours.)

I used the third colour scheme for further improvements:

Ignore the white little fella to the lower right, please. It's just a placeholder for an illustration. I am not sure if I will keep that, though. I just thought about adding something similar to those Fallout Pip Boy illustrations like this: Pip Boy Illustration.

Cheers

I overhauled the character creation menu:

I reworked it to make the UI and the website of my game look as if they fit together. All of them should share the same design principles.

The UI:

...and the corresponding website:

The website really exists and the login and registration options already work. The content is the only thing missing now. :) However, the graphical stuff is still a work in progress, so feel free to criticize me.

lol :)

I'm not sure if I will allow an age beyond 50 but I am definitely sure that I won't allow an age beyond 99 (at least during the character creation).

But thanks nontheless. ;)

I now tried to make the control elements look more simple and used frames to organise the entries:

Some minor changes:

I made the frames thinner, the text a little bit darker and I increased the contrast of the buttons (and added some shininess to them).

I made minor adjustments to my GUI mockup:

I also started to program the GUI. If you want to take a look at the real counterpart of the mockup, you can download this file:

Basements & Bosses 0.0.1 [Rev. 53]

Please note: The GUI isn't finished yet. The logo and the faces are missing in the app. The skills are nameless and the interactive "game" part is just a rather boring infinite terrain demo. You can return to the main menu by pressing Q or ESC. Movement controls are mapped to the WASD keys. It's a very, very, very early prototype for my game, so please, be gentle. :)

So far I only did some tests under Windows 7 64 bit. If you encounter problems running this app, please tell me. Critiques and Comments are as always highly appreciated.

The interface is reminding me of the first fallout. Good stuff.
