Hi guys,

I'm matrefeytontias from RMV Pixel Engineers. Some of you may know us ; we are the French programming team behind the Ikaruga demake to TI-83+/84+ calculators, IkarugaX. I made a Youtube video some time ago if you don't know it and want to see what it's like.

So I thought that we didn't have enough Ikaruga, so I started some time ago a 2D demake on TI-Nspire calculators. The difference is that those latter have a 320*240 color screen and a much more powerful CPU, permitting much more fun

So as I said I started some time ago, I think one or two months, and this is what I have at the moment. I want to create levels that are as close as possible to the original :

Beginning of level 1 intro :

Some fun I had while testing the possibilities of the patterns engine I built :

Sprites are courtesy of Metaru.

So why am I posting that here, well, I need a lot of sprites for a game like this, and since I suck unbelievably when I have to do images larger than monochrome 8*8, I need a lot of help. Metaru is already helping me with some sprites, but the most sprites you get, the better

So, keeping in mind that the screen is 320*240 and that I need to be able to put as many enemies as possible in it, what I would need as sprites is, in both polarities (use this video to see what I'm talking about) :
  • the tiny ships that you see around 0:22
  • the bigger ships you see around 0:36
  • the even bigger ships you see around 1:14
  • if you feel like it, the ones you see around 1:42 (the little balls at each side of the ship are separate entities)
  • and why not the boss itself ? :P

So that'll do for now, although it's already much, much work

Any help is greatly appreciated, as I literally can do nothing with gfx and I'm alone on this project for now ! Metaru is already helping me but I don't want to ask too many things to a single person. Also, feel free to ask anything about screen resolution, colors, well, anything.

Thanks by advance !

Hi matrefeytontias !

This looks damn amazing, especially those 2 gifs you posted. The motion works really well.

I would gladly help in such a project but sadly I don't have much time for this at the moment.

The main thing I'm wondering is : Why don't you make your own game ? I surely agree it demands more time and investment but it could be really awesome, coming with a cool and original concept to end up with a great game.

I love shoot'em ups but I'm tired of seeing spaceships all the time and here I see a great opportunity to build something really original, just saying.

Anyways, I wish you the best of luck on your work ! And cocorico :)

Thanks

The principal reason I make an Ikaruga clone instead of my own game is that I do love SHMUPs, and I also love Ikaruga. Since we're talking about a calculator here, my main motivation was "I wanna play Ikaruga on my TI-Nspire"

Besides, I'm not really good at inventing concepts. If you see the link to our site, you'll see there are for the most part clones of other games.

Wait, I didn't realize it is supposed to run on a calculator. A freaking calculator ! Man this is close to genius. I would love to see a video of it running on a actual calculator. I'm definitely going to follow the evolution of this project :)

Well, the thing is that I only own a monochrome TI-Nspire, so I can only take horrible screenshot since it's a really horrible screen >_>

I'll ask some friends who have a TI-Nspire CX (color) to run it and take that screenshot when there will be something to play :)

Bump,

so I added fireback and another wave, I thought I would let you guys know :

It does get pretty laggy when there's a lot of enemies (not even bullets, those don't make the game laggy at all), but hey, it's a calculator :P
