 Topic: CHALLENGE 4/30/2007: Character Selection Posted: 30 April 2007 at 12:13am |
CHALLENGE: Character Selection MenuThis week's challenge is brought to us by weekly challenge winner kakikukeko. Mockup a character selection menu of a game of your own. It can be any kind of game, puzzle game, beat them all, platform or whatever.. Rules:
- You have to show (at least) one character and its name.
- The character select must be a living character -- not a ship or other type of vehicle.
- Size MUST BE 240x160 (can't be vertical) .. you can work half rez if you want (or mix some full rez/ half rez element), but your final picture must be 240*160.
- Up to 64 colors
Here are a few examples, from the simplistic look of sonic or metal slug (sorry gba version ^^) to the hardcore SFA3 .... don't stick to those, there are so many other kind of menus... good luck!
CHALLENGE RULES- Participants have until this upcoming Sunday at midnight (12AM Pacific) to submit their entry (strict). Don't forget to check the 'Submit to weekly challenge' checkbox.
- Only new pixels allowed.
- Open to all members.
- Posting WIPs in this thread or in new threads in the WIP section is highly encouraged, but ONLY SUBMIT YOUR FINAL ART.
CHALLENGE JUDGING- Every Sunday at midnight (12AM Pacific) the previous week's entries are judged.
- Every week a new voting poll will be posted for previous week's entries.
- Winner announced the following week.
CHALLENGE PRIZES/GOODIES- Top three finishers will receive an award displayed in your PJ gallery profile for all to see and envy.
- Top finisher gets to call the following week's challenge...sweet.
- 'Participation' ribbons will be given for all who enter.
- No matter what happens you get challenged :)
CHALLENGE VOTINGVote now for your favorite pixelart in this week's challenge!
CHALLENGE AWARDSThe Character Selection Menu pixel art challenge is complete and we have three new champions. This week's challenge awards go to the following pieces: Thanks so much to all who took the time to vote and participate in the challenge!

I'm not seeing how they look alike at all, so they're both naked? thats like saying my mother looks like jennifer lopez when she's naked.
(which she doesn't btw)

jus wondering: Do robots count as valid characters? - The character select must be a living character -- not a ship or other type of vehicle.

I'm not terribly enthused by the cottonbud design, though.

Elk and AdamPlays win. D: Elk wins because his character has a penis, and Adam wins because... because yeah.
I kinda wanna join, but I dunno if I could handle it. I have an art history exam AND a geography exam this week. /cry
And characters are my one STRONG POINT.

Stichy, start whatever you can do.. you can still finish it later if you -unfortunately- can't finish it on time.. Setzer, seems like a good start! Elk, I like your sketch, I think the first colors were more original tho.. keep it up! Adam, mouhahaha (french laugh) *smells* like a stylus DS gameplay would fit perfectly for this game here is my wip.. I realise that I hATe to do fonts pix by pix (and no, his name is not Al )

I can pretty much guarantee that I will not get this finished in time (ever?) but I thought I'd at least take a stab at the challenge. Just working on composition, roughing out the characters, starting on outlines and attempting to pixel my text by hand. So C&C on any of those aspects would be cool.

I concur. This looks really nice so far Anlina S.
I also like how Setzer's is coming along with the colouring. I'd really like to make something for this if I had the time :(

Elk: Swish. I love the dynamic angle and colours. Very impressive
AdamPlays: Style looks novel, nice idea.
Setz: Sweet design, nice colours, looking good so far.
Kakikukeko: Awesome little scrolling test and arrows.
Anlina: Wonderful design so far, super anatomy.
Mil: Great idea and theme. The palette suits. And the face works well.
Loop: Very childish, great colours, works perfectly.

That's my wip. The hair and the shirt took longer than what it should have.
The black border is there for now, I just need to think of a good background.

wow so many entries suddenly! Mil , it looks very promising! can't wait to see more! Loop, it's really going in a good direction! VIC, pretty strong style! I think the hair or the bandana under the ear on your sketch was good, I wouldn't remove it.. Wish, nice! so soft.. 1up, that's not bad! you still have time, you can polish it more! Larwick..
hmmm...so you're one of those ForeGround first, background second pixel pushers... (amazing character..) Art sempai, so fast! here is a pretty messy update finally starting the character.. what do you think of the new arrow? (the stars will pan)
