So...a quick question...Would ANSI art be appropriate in the gallery?

Regardless, heres a couple I've been working on...

Both were done for a friend's BBS...He was feeling nostalgic...

I dont think so, but I think you could convert them to pixel art (horizontal pixels) very easy, and then they would be very nice!

What awesome screen images!!!
This question you pose is awesome too. My first gut feel is that since you
have control of every placement, the fact that the brush is text does
make it a pixelart derivative. If any new category of pixelart were
to be allowed this would be it for me. I would have to think and discuss it
but everything is carefully placed. The only iffy thing is the type being a
true font. With manual type tho, mhmmm...
...for now maybe

If it helps any its the ANSI extended Fixedsys font...Makes for a pretty crappy brush too...

See what you've done...you've swayed my opinion and now really want to give this a try. Is there a Mac emulator, anyone?

*grins* What OS version are you using? There are several Linux based programs that should (read as might) run on OSX...

That being the case you might want to check out

The one that I use is: (Windoze only) :(

Hi Eghost,

Really nice bug you have made!

The light source on the skull is a bit odd.

Best regards from

No reason it wouldn't run on OS X, though you'll need X11. I'll definitely be compiling it when I get home. Looks like fun!

Back on topic: I think these should be submittable as-is, even with the font. Maybe, if these do get accepted, they could have their own category and in it it could explain the type and so on. Those old BBS screens just wouldn't be the same without that crummy DOS font on them somewhere.

Ok...Well I'll try submitting the first screen and we'll see how that goes then...:)

BTW if anyone wants to check out how the intro screen looks in action:

telnet midnight.synchro.net

I think we allow guest logins but I'm not sure...

Another new piece...Did this one in 80 column x 50 row mode...Nicer squares to work with... That just makes the character cells a true 8x8 instead of 8x16...
<EDIT> Thought I'd ad the 80x25 version too...Just for the sake of comparison...</EDIT>

Normally I wouldn't bump but this is a new piece...This one's a WIP at the moment though...Still a lot of elements that I'm wanting to add...It's best viewed in 80x50 though it still works in 80x25... Oh yeah...Ignore the yellow line at the top...I was working on this one in a scratch pad kinda way...Did one element, did another, thought "Hey...This might work..."

Thanks...
*blinks*  Gah...I hadn't even noticed that...Think I'll shift the star over a bit  towards center and increase the height on the cross too...

I think I'm almost done...I'm going to do another dead tree in empty space in the lower left corner, and have it so that the limbs define that edge...

I think the tree in the distance is too generic turn it into a tree like the one on the left, that way it gives the scene a more dead look.

I reworked what I was thinking you might have been indicating was a tree...It's supposed to be a statue of an angel...I was trying to make a haze effect as things approached the horizon line...At any rate, barring any glaring errors I think this version is the one I'm going to send to the admin tonight... <EDIT> Had to re-uploade the image as Photobucket was scaling it down...</EDIT>
