It's not really random if you're putting effort into it.

But it seems... interesting. Trying new stuff is always nice, good luck with it.

I don't know if this approach would really lead to a desirable result..  Pixel art is all about precision and control, so to do something completely opposite that makes little sense.  But hey, you might invent something new lol.

I think in the time it took me to type this, I found the dog int he picture! I don't know how much we could help you at this stage haha, but good luck!

it is clear that is a very abstrac picture, ad you have to find the dog, even when there is no dog there(technically). even with all the 'mess' there, the dog's features are visible. at least in the first picture they were, because in the later edit they aren't that evident.

but, you know what? i would be interesting that the picture woul be slowly morphing into something completely diferenet(preserving the original shape) by just reorganizing the pixels into it. in a sort of trasition process. because where i saw a dog in the first picture, now i see a a head with a big pair of eyes...

Yeah, the lighter colors seemed better. The darker ones make it look more like... *shudders* >_< a jpeg.

This seems to remind me of those damn magic eye things. Never did get most of them to work right.

Did you put anything in there or is it just random lines and doodles? Because I see a guitar... or a bottle, I can't tell which.

after some thought I don't really see your dog to be an abstract piece. Abstract would insinuate that it has no tangible form, would it not? Therefore, because you are trying to create form out of substance, it wouldn't be considered abstract.. perhaps Psychedelic Art?

In any case, I'm interested to see where you go with this and what conclusions you come up with yourself.

rene magritte

the translation is "This is not a pipe"

but apart from Magritte the dog work reminds me a lot of the pointillisme movement (apart from the fact that pixelins is some sort of)

really nice.
I should notice also that here the colors are more well balanced and soft. While the first version of the dog, which btw I like the most, the color is more rough and bluish (in a way "cold") and seems like very "impulsive".
instead I think you tried to adjust it for a more "normal" looking in the third version of it. Have you though instead of softening it with yellow and magenta?

this is more of an experimental Wip threadrather than something strictly desider to be in the gallery. more like Dogmeat sharing his own exploration with us.

wich is great.

meh, true, but IMO this is gallery worthy, the other one that's full of vaginas and breasts was a really cool piece, but when it came down to it, there really wasn't any pixel-level manipulation...

This is experimental and could very much be defined as pixel art. *shrug*, I'll  just +fav this is my mind :3

And as a side note: experimentalism always gets bonus points in my book. ie I reckon an average experimental piece is a lot better than most well done Sonic or Mario sprites.

Hmm Oekaki, or whatever the hell it is called, caused a huge blowout and was deemed NPA. This is even more abstract.

I call this pixel art I also called the other pixel art too. Why? Well each pixel is placed as you position it but in a fast way. Apparently there is some speed limit for placing pixels. If you go too fast your work becomes NPA. Again nonsensical rules for "pixel" art.

People in the gallery demand one thing, picturesque scenes with incorrectly drawn ellipses and circles all done in desaturated colors.

Thistopic has a whole "downward spiral into madness" kinda feel. Which may or may not be a good thing. Only time will tell. XD

I like the newest ones.
They actually look like art and not just over colored scribbles, and they have a good effect going for them.
I especially like the latest one and the first weird smoke dragon.
I think the smoke dragon needs a hulking arm though.

it truly doesn't matter if you are or not using the spray tool if thats your intended result.  To me, its just another way of arriving at the same destination.... which still doesn't produce very good art in my opinion.  Maybe if you used this technique with a more controlled palette you may have better results.

yeah man, no harm intended at all.  I'm sorry if I came off harsh.  I'm actually a fan of the process if it were only with a controlled palette.  In fact I liked your black and white one you did early quite a lot.  if you apply that same theory to different palettes - defining a good value ramp - you might like the results even more than what you've got going at the moment

dogmeat:

you should craft the palette to what suits your piece in particular.  Relying on a pre-defined palette (namely the MS paint palette) you're giving up a piece of your art.

An experiment I did earlier shows that you can maintain unity even with a ridiculous range of highly saturated colors - but you have to control it via another means.

Example:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v169/calypson/mrparrot10.png

With my parrot, I controlled it using a value range as the anchor, but you could probably do this with any sort of range; saturation, contrast, hue, etc.  (value is probably the easiest to deal with)  I also used a grey to help bridge the warm and cool colors.  This was pretty important for dealing with such high saturation.

Its things like this which you should constantly be aware of while you make your art.  I'm interested to see what you come up with...  But by all means dont just use random colors :P

I like your style already from the start Dogmeat. Experiment with the things Indigo mentioned.

the style remindes me of some kind of very powerful impressionism or rather pointillism art. especially Seurat ( the 3 first paintings in the link below). I'm not sure but I think Monet also made a piece which your style reminds me of..., can't find it though...

http://www.eyeconart.net/history/postimpressionism.htm

anyway, continue with your awsome wierd style :P
