I post here too much:c lol.

So I'm working on a gift for someone- its her character and her base (thehword.deviantart.com) and the straps, collar and metal are looking rather flat and unleather/metal like to me..I've spent so much time redoing them and it doesnt seem to be getting much better. So does anyone have any C&C for me? General stuff is great too.:P

thanks^^

Try using a set of 4 pixels where 3 of them are very dark (purples from shirt look ideal) and use one single bright (using the blues from the eyeshadow blues. Then using that go from dark to light to dark as needed using that 4px as 1 piece. (like the 2nd earing is but 1 is bright)
Even tho its a fantasy picture I think a hint of lower lid will help in defining the nose.
The disc in the center (holding 3 straps) is too round. At this angle it should oval a little more.
You get into your pieces and always try your best so I like to nitpick your pieces to help if at all possible.

EDIT: Congrats, on the second place!

2 things:
-boobs look out of persp;
-what happens to her hand is not very readable.

Knowing now what you can do with color, I'd love to see her less realistic! ;)

@ jal: got to try that!

Thanks for the C&C and Jal for the congrats. Not bad at all for my first weekly^^ I usually try to make each piece better than the last. So I really appreciate the nitpicking

Anyways though, I think I adjusted pretty much everything mentioned to some degree.. I think the bit around the neck is my biggest issue now..I need to redo that or something. And does the fact that the boobs dont line up with the black leather collar pieces bother anyone? I keep thinking that it should line up..

edit:// okay tried something new and I think it fixed the collar. And Jal, whoops, I didnt know which eye you were talking aboutXD I'll play with it tomorrow. Thanks again! The little studs look much better when they're shaded :O

I'll make a crude doodle over your art so that you see what I mean about the lid. zoom in.

I don't get it... and you did not edit anything ?

(I am talking to Jal)

Could you edit it the way you meant with the scheme? I would like to understand it too ;)

I don't know what you mean. You mean pixellling with 4px as 1px?
I did not edit Shannon's art because I don't think she likes that.

Let me rephrase what I said so you can understand what I meant:

Huh, what does your explanation and what does your image mean? What did you want to show?

As far as I can see:

Jal did an edit for the metal studs, to explain his earlier notice about the lighting.
He made a small edit in red over the eye. Can't quite make out of what the difference is supposed to be tho.
Without me, it's just aweso

The difference is the lids, specifically the lower one. His line gives a much more defined shape to the lower part of the eye.

Yes, the black bar is just showing how to make 4px units to be used as 1 to create the studs on the neck. The emphasis is on 1px on each unit. Didn't do a great job but this is a classic PA trick.
The eye I was just mentioning the suggestion of the lower lid below the lashes. The reason is that without this sometimes the space between the eye and the nose can seem very large.

Okay, I used jals redline and then pretty much aaed it.. It doesnt make much of a difference in my eyes, or maybe I'm still doing it wrongXD Anyways, I redid the shading below the neck and fooled around with those strap things too. they're killing me,haha. I think its the body's angle..

oh and I dont really mind paintovers or redlines at all. I give them to other people all the time so I would be a bit of a hypocrite if I wasn't open to them
