CHALLENGE: Steamy Icons

Make an icon for a new and original game - à la the ones found on http://store.steampowered.com/ - Steam (examples below).

Pick from one of these two sizes:

184 x 69; example:

-or-

120 x 45; example:

Canvas size - Exactly 184 x 69 or Exactly 120 x 45.
Colours - Max 32.
Transparency - No.
Animation - No.

CHALLENGE RULES

Participants have until this upcoming Sunday at midnight (12AM Pacific) to /pixels/submit_icons.asp'>submit their entry (strict). Don't forget to check the 'Submit to weekly challenge' checkbox.
Only new pixels allowed.
Open to all members.
Posting WIPs in this thread or in new threads in the /forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=8'>WIP section is highly encouraged, but ONLY SUBMIT YOUR FINAL ART.

CHALLENGE JUDGING

Every Sunday at midnight (12AM Pacific) the previous week's entries are judged.
Every week a new voting poll will be posted for previous week's entries.
Winner announced the following week.

CHALLENGE PRIZES/GOODIES

Top three finishers will receive an award displayed in your PJ gallery profile for all to see and envy.
Top finisher gets to call the following week's challenge...sweet.
'Participation' ribbons will be given for all who enter.
No matter what happens you get challenged :)

You definitely should come up with a name for the game (I have yet to come across a icon on Steam that doesn't show the game's name...)

It would be better if the slimes had rounded bottoms, and maybe a little slime trail behind them.

A couple of ideas I'm batting around. I still haven't decided if I want to do a landscape or something more like a portrait/sprite with an abstract background. My mind is wandering towards a landscape...

I don't like how the birds came out, and I'm not sure if I should texture the rocks normally or just add more elements like the vines to give it depth.

The red AA is bleeding, I suggest you use a more desaturated colour to AA so that there's less noise. Looking good otherwise!

You can upload it on imageshack or photoshop, then click the little 'insert image' icon while your posting and link to your art.

Update. Reduced the bleeding you pointed out Chris, but I still need to fix the orange color too.

Also need a name for this game, lol. Maybe I should have thought of that before doing the image... :P

The title is Mekk Arms 1944( I know what you're thinking: it's lame..). The game is all about a spy sent to investigate (and fight) these fascists with metal arms.(DUH)

Bullet hole in the metal or a small explosion in the background are two ideas. I realize there isn't a lot of real estate around the label but this is where you could improve your piece.

I tried another technique, which will blend more with the name, because soon I'll use this in my next mockup. Tomorrow I'll get the background, and some other details soon! Tips are welcome! :)

as the first letters of your title go over the lighter colors. it makes it harder to see. but if you notice the "NE" in your title are over the darkest area and they seem to look much better.

so this proves in-order to get a better result there needs to be more contrast between the title and the background.

looks really cool, but on my monitor is hard to see the figure standing on the rock. perhaps you could add some more light to him ( after all he is holding a torch)

If you want to make the title more readable you can try to add a small black border around the letters...

I've still got to come up with a name but heres my entry so far

Going for a Reservoir Dogs/Pulp Fiction feel crime game. Not sure on the street background, I like the brick walls but will probably change the houses and the road.

Yes, you need to create only the title/logo of the game, not necessarily the game itself. In other words, invent!

Massive sim game fan

Rough layout before the detail.Want a bubbly sort of text. Could bump the size a couple of pixels before I color it but don't want it to be too weighty.

Lots of awesome pieces already teasing us, nice works
