Hey I have been working on this mockup for my first game ever... I wanted it to have that NES retro feel and right now I am trying to make a bare tree and I am not having a good time with it lol. This is my first time ever pixelling so if anyone could critique me and give me some pointers that would be awesome thanks!

Ok first off I think this is more of game boy color rather than nes because in nes the colors are very limited and the same color will be used often in most cases(The sea color and the sky color are the same in super mario bros).
You might want to create that limit colors instead of this because this is more of Snes or GBC.

Yea you guys are right no more than 16 colors are allowed on the screen at once but I like the colors mesh so I am not sure I am gonna change it, do you by chance know how to draw a bare tree..if you look closely you can see an outline of what I have so far I think it looks a little awkward and I am also uncertain how to shade it
EDIT: Oh man technos I just saw that Image thats awesome man I really like the palette you used and I like the rolling guy lol

Actually I don't think it really needs any shading seeing that the background is black.

I'd say you have a good start here. The ground looks fine, so you don't need to work on that.
The tree itself looks good, but the color is too dark and is barely visible. It's a nice tree, and you want people to be able to see it ;).
I would suggest to remove the blue and purple from the moon, as it doesn't really do anything and just adds unnecessary banding.
I would also work on the banding in the clouds, and the clouds seem a bit too small, too.
And the background is still quite bare, I would get creative and add more stuff like bushes, tombstones, fences, a mountain maybe, etc.
Since this is your first game, I would not worry about strict NES restrictions. It looks retro, in any case.

@Buddy90 thanks for the feedback man, in response I initially wanted to make a mountain but after several attempts I didn't like anything I making so then I went for trees because it seemed easier, the tree I have up there is to big for me because it would be to complex to shade and it is to dark since I am brand new to pixel art I need something simpler so I started working on a simpler trees...ill post those soon. As for the clouds I do agree they are small but I was going for a partly cloudy night and the moon is from and old NES game I use to play I think the colors really make that moon pop out.
