Hey guys... it's my first WIP, sorry if i did something wrong then.. =)

Well i'm planning to do a platform game and the main character is going to be a mushroom... I drawn it and i'm a little insecure about it

Here it goes:
http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab320/Perikls/mush.jpg?t=1257031197 -

I want some suggestions of what I can do to improve it...
After finishing it i'm going to do the character's animations...

Let me know your opinion

Thnx ^^'

Yech! It's a jpeg! ;)
Probably by the host's fault, change it.

I prefer the 2 little ones in your gallery, to be honest. They look more lively than this one.

What's the black dot? eye, mouth?

I don't think dithering is a good option at this scale, it might look better shiny. I'm no expert in sprites though.

To embed an image, either use the tree icon, or [-img-] ... [-/img-] tags, without the -.

Yeah guy... you were absolutely right about the dithering... it's nicer now...

It's more lively... *-*... I used some lighting techniques to get more reality
Any other suggestions are always welcome =DDD~~

And it's a JPG... i didn't notice it... It switched automatically when I uploaded it... ¬¬

Thnx a lot guy!

Hey!

Now I started doing the tileset...

It seems that the mushroom is not matching with the platform... maybe for color reasons...

I'm pretty open to suggestions =D

The secondary light source on the shroom can only be reflected light from the grass: should be greenish (slightly!)

I like the tiles, but not the horizontal dark green line. Break it or remove it.

Good work so far! (esp with the tree!)

All colors go if character is distinctive from background. Note that platforms also should be well pronounced.

Guys...

I have a question... If I do the slightly greenwish second light, behind the character, wouldn't it be strange when he walks on an ice paltform for example?

The tree... I'm going to use just this topic to expose everything...

Don't bother. Main thing is to make it do not look strange when he walks at all. Do you plan to animate it?

Actually I plan to animate and have already done some of them...
The walking cycle is basicaly walking to the right and to the left and the turning to both right/left animation...

Here it goes

Turning

Walking

The turn is pretty good. Speeding it up a little would make it better. :3

Anims look good, but I don't know if the walk will look like one when it's actually moving.
Maybe the ... red part (how the *** do you call that in English??? can't say head since its foot is its head...) should move back and forth too with that same little delay.

I did the speed change on the turning animation, the walk I haven't change anything yet...

Turning

Special Attack

Jumping

Help me with the second light issue... I've chosen the white one for it to fit in any color of platform, what color must I use?

Difficult to say without seeing the other bgs.
Possibly, either warm (orange-yellowish) or cold (bluish) might work; it might be more the hue of the shading than of the light.
I don't have any experience in PA for games, so I can just guess. I'm not even sure sprites use 2ndary light.
Anyway, a good 2ndary light is usually a different color than the main.

The bg looks quite good! (except that grass line, still worrying)
