Man, that blue ribbon one is fantastic!  So much energy and enthusiasm!  The ones for "My challenge on Weekly Challenge", "Someone use one of my PA as avatar", and "Have more than 15 buddies here" are also my favorites here.

Fun little pieces :)

I really like the composition here!  I especially like Richter and Alucard's poses.  The use of Castle Dracula in the top left is a nice touch, as is the use of the bat and candle in the lower right.  The bat and candle just look great - I especially like the way you depicted the smoke coming from the candle.

As for crits; the yellow circle around the castle isn't antialiased properly and looks odd because of it; Maria's visible leg looks to me to be strangely positioned or too thin; the word "starring" has two "r"s, not one; and I'm not fond of the dithering used everywhere, especially in the blue area by Count Dracula's face.

My favorite part of this poster is Richter.  He just looks perfect!  Also, I think that for this challenge, your poster shows the best use of a palette and best composition, so it gets my only vote :)

Cool, the top three were the ones I voted for, and in the order I hoped for :)
Nice entries, guys.

I like the game.  I prefer everything in this to what I remember of Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake, and the like.  If only it wasn't so buggy, or if there was a save feature at least - it crashed on me during the sewer boss fight.  I think the boss reappeared right where I was standing, as I couldn't move and it seemed like I was inside it's model.  Shooting made the sound for hitting, but it wouldn't go away and then it crashed.  I also had some minor glitches happen wherin enemies would get stuck in the doors as they close.  One had the enemy visible, but not shooting or shootable until I opened the door.  The other time, the enemy was a melee enemy and was shootable but not moving.

I'm really impressed with the entries this time!  Great work, all of you!

Hmm, too bad.  I was thinking of switching everything over to Firefox 3 when the final version finishes, but I might not now.

Pretty good, but the big patch of dithering on the jaw rather bugs me.

Yay, botulism!  Brings back fond memories of accidentally spraying the kitchen wall and ceiling with tomato sauce.

Huh?  What is a link changing URL?  Are people telling you to change their avatar for them?  Or are they telling people what the URL to their new avatar is?  Or what?  I don't get this news post.

lollige: If you see floodfills, cheap paint drawings, or other tooled art on DA in the Pixel Art section, you can report it as a miscategorization that should be in the Digital Drawings section.

While I also feel it's too dithery, I have to say, you got the likeness down very nicely :)

That's a cool chibi style.  Hair and outfit are nicely detailed.

His left hand feels awkward being turned at that angle, his left foot seems too stubby with the small nails, and the line on his stomach that touches the middle finger of his right hand seems off.  That line just doesn't seem to bend properly, as I feel the antialiasing you have there isn't doing the right job.

I also think that all of the stomach lines would look better if they started curving back upwards at the outside.  It would make sense, given the positioning of his hips and shoulders, I think.  The lines look a bit too stiff as it is.

Aside from that, I have to say the sprite is great.  The colors are vibrant and fitting, and all of Bowser's little details are accounted for.  Very nice!

This shows quite the improvement in running animation.  The colors are nice, but I think I'd prefer a brighter red and blue and/or some highlights and shadows.  The idle animation is fantastic :)

Very cool.  The rabid-looking one is my favorite, even though the nose moves oddly :)

Edit: Woah, I had no idea that the pixelplayer lets me see the individual frames of animation.  Pixeljoint really is an awesome place for pixel art.  I'm glad I read the comments on this page.

Haze01 @ 1/7/2008 1:51:37 AM commented on Tapestry
This is very nice, but it's not one of my favorites from this week's challenge.  The biggest problem for me is the trailing fabric.  The story in your comments explain this fabric well enough, and the symbolic touches are nice.  The fabric on her body, from shoulder to ankle, is really quite good.  The trailing fabric, however, feels heavy, lumpy, thick, and coiled.  The cloth has folds all over, like it's been bunched up from many different directions.  In parts, it looks a bit like sausage rings.  It just doesn't seem to make any sense being bunched up like that, and it looks bad to me.  Also, it seems like it's coming out of only one side of the dress with the other side completely unaffected, and this is also something that doesn't work for me.

As for the "tapestry effect"; while the border and trim all look very nice, the perfectly clear image breaks that effect.  It's kinda like the difference between an iron-on and a stitched picture.  I just wonder if the doll would work better with just the castle background and some of the border.

Nice job, though.  The story is represented very well in this picture.  The elephants, hanging rope, flowers, and hands are especially nice.

The turban is great, but the stylized shading on the face is killing it for me.  You have some fabulous dithering and detail in both pieces of cloth.  The line-art, lips, ear and eyes are all fantastic, and your palette is very nice.  But, with that cartoony/blotchy/vectory shading on the skin, I find myself looking at the highlight on her cheek, the shapes on her forehead and the aliased shading on her neck instead of the textiles.

I know that this was finished "barely in time" for the textiles challenge and, in that regard, the piece is quite successful in presenting pixelated fabric.  I just think that the piece as a whole could be better with a different shading style on the skin.

Good luck in this week's challenge. :)

Man, what an awesome sprite.  It's incredibly minor, but do you think the flat part on his left leg, and the outline on the upper left of the canister in the left of the image could be improved a bit?  The pack seems a tad jaggy, and the leg part seems strange being so straight there.  Small crits.  Great pixels.  Loving the palette, dithering, and highlights :)

The aa in the background isn't working well - it actually serves to make the blue swoop jaggy, in my opinion.  Nice stamp, though.

The feathers are great, and I love the joke!

I agree that some sort of tail would help, and I think a second leg would too.

Awesome mockup, and such a sweet game you made!  Darn hard too; it will take me a while before I can beat it.

I also liked that tetromino game; I'd wanted to see that concept turned into a game for ages!
