mm i like the concept of this piece a lot. red sky gives it a good atmosphere. good levels of saturation.

hey everyone.

I apologize for taking down a lot of pieces in my gallery. Im not trying to withdrawal from the community in anyway. im simply trying to retire a lot of my old art to make room and inspiration for new art. working currently on new gallery pieces, and am looking forward to getting some stuff up over winter break im hoping. Life's been busy though, so heres hoping.

thanks for the comments so far everyone. I agree with most of the concerns posted. the arm looks kindof chopped near the forearm mainly because i hadnt wanted to put an outline around that flat area, so arguably ill have to make some o the connecting muscles in the forearms a bit more bulbous to compensate perhaps? The clothing i know wasnt quite there yet and still isnt, but its slowly improving :P. Thanks adarias for the warning there, i think i feel i know what you mean. will be making more adjustments in that department.

For those tha tlike the old version better, i appreciate what you mean when you say that, the areas that have a lot of contrast currently did not have such in the older version, giving it alomst a cleaner feel, but the colors are just way off and it looks pretty sloppy in the anatomy department (and completely crap in the arm musculature). im still not there yet, but im taking my sweet ol time. its a good warm up exercise into this kindof pixelling. its funny what kindof work you get used to doing 'on the job' versus all the fun stuff one would otherwise get to do at home.

ugh, this is just sex. you finally got it man. i remember back like 5 years ago, compared to what youre doing now, we were just drawing stick men and stick twigs and stuff.  I dont want to crit the motion to the degree of adarias or anything, i can see what hes saying for sure, i for one love the exaggeration on this particular character though.

lol im also thinkin, 'hey, balls!' how random looking. but hey, we all have-ta pee somehow. You could probably just cut this guys arm out and put it on its own canvas and itll still look really sweet. nice subtle shading, looks 'painted' :)

heheh, im with gassie, i was fooled into thinking it was a kon tree like those on his site at first. I think its because you both are going into gross detail to pixel every little leaf :).  I like the third one in the most out of the bunch. its got a little extra spunk to it. The trunk on it is well formed. digging through old work is nostalgic, eh?

I like this piece of yours, i dont do many distorted faces personally  but i think what i like about it so much is the use of blacks for the shadows, as opposed to some darker, but not near black hue or some kind. Gives it  a nice comic book vibe. I dont know whats going on with the ear, but ignoring that, looks like a good practice of pixel technique.

hello friends! im so glad to chat with you all again. i definitely wasnt satisfied when i was placing the hand, spent several (more than 5, heheh) minutes trying various positionings on the hands and i hadnt gotten it right so i had sort of moved on from it for the time being. I definitely need to pop that back leg outline on there, looks silly being the only aspect of the sprite without it. The gun-arm itself is in fact that (good work hairyu), and i suspect because of the gun attachment design is not very hand-like in nature it doesnt seem to read that way in a static pose. i think flipping him facing left and then redrawing the orientation of the limbs properly would help clear that up. you people are all getting so good at this dark art of pixels, im so happy, and also inspired, by many of your works. ciao for now

i havent had this much respect for a pixelated piece in a long time.  I can clearly see all of your techniques culminated into this fantastic work, but i think the most amazing part about this piece is the comprehension of color theory and how intimately balanced these colors can be when in close proximity to another. for some reason i am especially drawn to the leg, perhaps not only by the stronger contrast in that area, but also just the athletic, sleek musculature of the leg, it seems very much real, more so than all of the other awesome detail. The one thing that keeps popping out at me over and over though, is the bicep on the right most arm, it just seems too big given the rest of the musculature, especially in comparison to the somewhat dwarved deltoid of which it is intertwined with ;).

i like the chin stubble effect a lot ^_^. some of the hues look like those false positive images you see come from nasa photographs of celestial objects... i think the structure is pretty well done, reminds me a lot of the price of persia guy actually. hes definitely got a bigger trapezoids than ill ever have , ever.... :)

st0ven @ 5/10/2006 11:39:07 PM commented on Bronze Bust *updated*
its a shame about the anatomical placement of some of the features being a bit off because the color and form of this work is spectacular. can we say bronze sculpture? as mentioned before the ear is way too low, if you pull out a reference of the head the bottom of the ear would line up in the neighborhood with the bottom of the nose and the top of the ear would be in line with about the browline. the left cheek is a little too prominent, sticks out a bit far, which would add to that 'alienesque' feel that tEh B.O.B is mentioning. the way the highlights are placed on the nose makes it look completely vertical, not keeping in alignment with the rest of his face having that slight profile angle to it. the last anatomy issue id comment on is the top of his head, the actual cranial cavity area above his facial features is slightly larger than it shoudl be which just makes the head look too big altogether at the top.

despite this, i think the real genius put into the color work into this piece far outshines whatever anatomy that might be muffled because you can always pick up a book and learn anatomy but to learn how to throw those colors together and have them work, a whole different story.

thankseh for the comments!  Saboteur, you wont find any arguments from me, i agree on all the points youve mentioned. I think one of the issues is that while i was pixelling him, he completely transformed form what i had originally intended and i think i sort of ran away with individual features instaed of considering them as a whole. also i look at the color work and im wholeheartedly disappointed in its quality, still feels like i can do much much better.

having said that, i still consider this as a warm up piece as its been a few months since ive been able to dedicate time to 'pixel' something for fun. ive got more progress that ive made, but im giong to wait again to post until im completely satisfied methinks?

i thinkseh the technique involved is great! the wrench on his back is awesomely detailed but i cant seem to follow its perspective consistency. man the roundness and the form of everything looks truly spectacular... i think the muscles look a  little bit too faded in their definition for someone of that gargantuan strength! what does it remind me of... *snaps fingers*... ever see the tmnt movies? thats certainly what it reminds me of! Anyhow i checked out your site and i must say that i am a growing fan of yours :)

updated a bit of it, uploaded the new file. has better contrast and detail in some areas... though i apologize if some of the dissatisfaction was from the anatomy itself!

The first version of this, the anatomy was awful and i was contemplating on just skipping this piece and going onto another piece and just call this 'warmup', but i tried to salvage its anatomical issues and press on. In comparison to the older version, i think the improvements anatomically are vast and great, but looking upon it now i still get that same feeling that its just not all there. i agree with adarias right on the money there! ^_^ so ill be updating this piece if i can start getting something to flow a little better than what i have now.

You know when i posted this i just felt the anatomy was off. i think i was staring at it too long cause i wasnt able to pin it down.
i think i know why the foot looks weird, its gotta bee how the knee is shaded, the stark pointedness of the knee would suggest that the leg is facing in a direction not so consistent with the direction of the foot...
as for the leg length, i also thought this was the case , that they were too short, but  ive measured it and from his waist to his feet its a good length, but the fact that the crotch in the pants start so low...makes the legs seem smaller than they should be.

s***, looks like i have some severe editing to do, lol.
Thanks fellas (i told ya its been a while, haha.... *sigh* all i can do is laugh).
