A side scrolling rpg I've started as a little side project for fun.. Inspired by the paper mario series.

The chipset is meant to be simplistic, and cave story esque.

Some items are found by treasure chests, but for this one it was a sparkle on the ground, like in resident evil games.

The background is kind of experimental.

NOTE: The main character is NOT winnie the pooh.

NOTE: The text is from rpg maker. Because I'm using it.

The main character is awesome... for lack of a better word, cute.  The mushroom house looks too elongated though - maybe some more shading on the base?

Mowzr, I generally love your cute stuff, but this isn't really doing it for me.  The sprites look a little off-base and I think they could be touched up, but if you said the main sprite is temp then I guess this comment is moot.

I don't like how the tree is flat, I couldn't tell it was a tree at first.  And the mushroom house looks odd how its sides come up, like it's balancing.  Most of all, I think you need to separate the forground objects from the background more.  It blends together too much, and perhaps the black outline on the sprites is too much if you don't use black anywhere else, or at least dark colors.

That all being said, don't think I don't think there is any merit at all in this, I really like where this is going, but I just think it needs to be touched up.  I like the yoyo too.

Faved this, because i love the characters.

If you want some critique, i would love to see a pixel or two shading on the right side of  the tree and the "platforms". As well as some detail in the water. Bubbles maybe? A frame or something on the doorway would be sweet as well.

But once again. The characters are perfect :D

i like the notice board very much, so nicely done :)

Real nice. I do think the black color could be changed with somthing dark but not black :/

Thanks, all I do is use events/tiles that are solid and put them above the area that the character is allowed to walk in.

I love it but may I ask how you are making a sidescroller with RPG maker?

Mowzr (Level 1 Depressed) at 9/25/2006 7:42:24 AM
Yes. They are. There's other things here on PJ that used them, am I supposed to note that? I'm sorry.

One thing: The text and the sword icon are from RPG maker, or they look so alike that I can't make em out.

 Holy flipping christ.

I never thought he looked like winnie the pooh. OMFG.

Wow. Thank you guys for opening my eyes lmao. Jesus, I can't believe I never noticed. It's just a cat-guy with a red scarf. But it DOES look like winnie the pooh.. Wow. Oh well, he's temporary anyway...

So, for the record, it is NOT winnie the pooh. Thank you.

 Thanks guys.

Very cool, Mowzr. Like MinningKrull said, the colors are nice and flat which looks good. Nice stars!

My only crits would be that the main character looks a little like Winnie the Pooh. Not sure if that is the intension, but if it isn't a quick palette adjustment would do the trick. Personally I prefer the bird character. I would use him/her as the main character instead - but that's just me. :)

Also, I like the shadow on the tree trunk, under the canopy, to help the depth a little more it would be nice to add a single color shadow or highlight to the trunk vertically to help define its cylindrical shape. Some anti-aliasing on the doorways would help - perhaps a frame or awning above the doors would add a nice touch too.

Keep up the great work. I look forward to seeing how this progresses.

Is that winnie the pooh?

ManningKrull (Level 9 Executioner) at 9/25/2006 6:27:15 AM
I love this thing! The palette is beautiful, and everything looks so smooth and flat and consistent. It would have been easy to over-shade this and un-do that unique look and feel.
