Brilliant as always Buloght.
I especially like the way you've shifted the pixels to the colder hues as parts of it go into the distance. It makes a huge difference and very well observed.

user
buloght (Level 6 Hitman) at 2/6/2007 5:07:37 AM
Thanks afflict, opacus :), Agreed, I should work on that wing.

user
Opacus (Level 7 Ichikyu) at 2/6/2007 2:40:11 AM
I love this, excellent job. Meh, I still like dragons even though they have become extremely un-original to draw, and everyone seems to grow sick of them. So, why not grow sick of dogs, or cats? I never hear anyone about those while they are also drawn alot.

There's one thing that really bugs me, his left wing (our view) has a truly horrible selout on the end of his wing I really think you should fix, because it completely ruins his wing in my opinion. It shouldn't take long to fix either knowing what you're capable of.

I really like his pose, the scanner seems to do you good, the pose is excellent, and not one I've seen before from a dragon.

Keep it up!

(I also love you for making riva upload new stuf <3)

user
Afflict (Level 4 Lieutenant) at 1/13/2007 1:19:53 AM
This is by far the coolest dragon I've ever seen!

user
Riva (Level 6 Commander) at 1/2/2007 2:44:24 PM

Sorry for offtopic:
I wonder that you even know me. :)
Its true I was much more active on old Pixelation forums then here.

Its also true that people like Stoven and nVision are still far better then me :)

Its strange that lately I produced more pixel stuff then ever and still showed nothing. Its just that most of it is part of some commercial projects and it kindof feels stupid to upload commercial work to hobby gallery like PixelJoint.

Ok .. Im going to upload something right now :)

user
buloght (Level 6 Hitman) at 1/2/2007 7:47:25 AM
Thank you , that means a lot coming from you. When joining here, alongside big brother and stoven, your gallery was the first I found, ransacked and studied. I was sad to see you weren't around any more.

user
Riva (Level 6 Commander) at 1/2/2007 6:18:29 AM
Your art as whole is one of maybe 2 in all PixelJoint gallery that I instantly rated 5\5.
Yeah, as if it ment something .. pff :)

user
buloght (Level 6 Hitman) at 1/1/2007 2:14:40 AM
Thanks for all the response , Thanks for the great constructive criticism. BaB, I will definitely try a rework of the wing sometime, and also remove those jaggies. I added sketch with wip in description.

user
Helm (Level 5 Detective) at 12/24/2006 7:03:55 PM
Thanks for the reply Buloght. I expect to see this level of anatomical and perspective improvement on all your future works, since you now have a scanner.

user

xomg beautiful O_o
5/5+autofav ;)
the pose is astounding, and it's got that 'he-he-he-I'll-eat-you-now' face :)

user
buloght (Level 6 Hitman) at 12/23/2006 2:32:31 AM
Thanks for the comments all. This dragon was drawn from head, no reference except the usual to see how dragons look (googled dragons), I'll upload my dragon drawing next time. I didn't copy a dragon look nor position since I wanted to design a unique dragon (never seen the warhammer dragon you speak of helm). This is my own work 100%. The reason it might look better 'drawn' than my previous works, Helm is because I'm starting to draw with pencil and then scan, all my previous work (except the Journey) are mouse-drawn). I have found it works better for dynamic and perspective. And previously I did not own a scanner. The reason I have 32 colors. Well I wanted to create a sense of depth accross the dragon, so it may look like less but I kept on changing the colors as I went further back. I am currently without connection so my time here is limited, I'll respond later to all thanks!

Wonderful  Dragon Art.  Very detailed.
Hope jalonso and Helm can shake hands, now that the wise sedgemonkey has spoken.

user
Zlothien483 (Level 1 Depressed) at 12/22/2006 8:24:41 AM

It's an awesome piece of art. I do think it's left "foot" could be improved a tad bit, making it look curled like it's right hand claw.

user
rabidbaboy (Level 4 Shichikyu) at 12/21/2006 10:59:52 PM

I do think the wings could make do with the same detail as the front part, but MAN, that dragon is wicked.

Maybe lowering the front layer (Wings+ head) a bit will fix the "snapped look" it has.

Props to you, man.

user
The B.O.B. (Level 11 Master Assassin) at 12/21/2006 8:40:08 PM
Werd up to, Sedgey-poo.(slaps both Helm, and Jalonso's wrists)
After looking a little bit further into it's wings, I noticed that it seems a little specky where the green skins are, and it could be cleaned up a wee bit. And am I the only one who's sees the dragon's perspective as if it's being snapped in half? I guess it must be because it has a long body. Still though, I love the detail work on it's frontal half.

user
sedgemonkey (Level 11 Master Assassin) at 12/21/2006 6:00:08 PM

@Jalonso/Helm:  I understand where both of you are coming from on your initial comments... I agree with Helm that posting a query as to a  piece's source(s) is not an obtrusive question. I do see where jalonso is coming from with the tone of the question -- the implication that buloght had heavily used a source and not given credit can be seen as unfair. If that is not the implication of the question than I'm confused too.  However, I do want to reiterate that asking for a source is entirely appropriate in a public forum... whether the artist wants to answer is up to them.

Helm wants to hear something from buloght and Jalonso was just trying to stick up for a friend for what he perceived as a slight.  However you interpret these actions that's the bottom line.  You guys are both super talented guys who just have different opinions on how to approach critiques. There's no reason to take the argument any further.

user
Helm (Level 5 Detective) at 12/21/2006 10:11:27 AM
This isn't an attack, it's a question, to be answered by those equipped to answer it, not guessing. Only Buloght, therefore. There's no need to defend anyone. You're out of line, and I will bring this situation to sedge's attention now.

You'd do well to consider the difference between leaving room for interpretation, and leaving room for MISinterpretation before you paint me in those elitist and immature colors with your indistriminate brush. I am not interested in how people misiterpret, since such occurs due to their fault, not mine.

There is no room for different interpretations of my original comment that what I was meaning: did or did not Buloght use reference for this, and if so, what was it? To consider it to mean anything else is because of your own issues with me.

My query, similar to many many other queries about authenticity, is public for the benefit of the public. As this piece is made public, so is the query. If Buloght's answer is 'no, there's no reference' then that is public as well. This will be resolved when Buloght is available to answer, not by your silly emoticons.

user
jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) at 12/21/2006 8:02:54 AM
again
Friends defend friends when they are unable to speak for themselves (Buloght has no internet, atm). I act on behalf of Buloght, but you are welcome to go ponder.
To not care that others misinterpret online comments is elitist, shallow and immature.
Asking such things of new members is fine since they have yet to establish a reputation, if you will. Your query, if honest should have been sent in a PM.
Any action by any member of PJ have equal consequence since PJ in not an oracle. Your last line is a personal attack and ends this convo.

*cure, go to your room.

" could have been unfairly misinterpreted by others and without a concrete accusation you were wrong to even pose such questions."

Your friendship with buloght does not warrant you to talk through his mouth, so please don't. I know buloght well enough too, from before this website, and before he even got interested in being a pixel artist, and I respect his growth. I would be extremely disappointed if this was a rip, but it is my opinion that the anatomy of this particular flying lizard by far exceeds his ability at this time, so I am asking, hoping it was only a sin of ommision of him to not mention sources, and not a concrete attempt at misleading.

I do not care how other people misinterpret. They should try to not do so. I have asked similar questions to a lot of users, some replied, some not, some said they had, some said they hadn't, I don't see where you get off telling me what is wrong and what is not.

Or are you acting on behalf of pixel joint officially? If that is the case please do tell me so I may ponder on what it means when an official of this place attempts to stop me from clarifying a could-be-rip as I've done many times in the past, for the benefit of this place and the pixel-art scene by large.

If you are not acting officially, your opinions on the morality of my actions aren't really of much consequence.

user
Badassbill (Level 10 Maniac) at 12/20/2006 3:53:17 PM
Though I think this piece is very good, I feel that the way the skin on the left wing (his right) is shaded is letting the piece down. It's almost breaking down the amazing sense of depth that you've managed to build up on the body. It feels like you've tried to draw it as if light is breaking through it, but there's no real depth or realism to it. I want to see some viens or some scale texture to blend shades. Please take my advice and make this great piece achieve it's potential.

user
ceddo (Level 6 Yonkyu) at 12/20/2006 6:12:15 AM
That's awesome! I don't like the way the hind legs were done though.. I would have done them further down the tail, and maybe have made one kicking to the side to give them more dynamicism.

user

user
jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) at 12/19/2006 10:42:27 PM
Buloght is currently without an internet connection and may be so for the xmas holiday. Because he always details in his descriptions of his pixels and has proven over time to be beyond reproach as to his artistic integrity. As a friend of his, and aware of his working style and his opinions regarding traces, copies, rips, sources and references, I am in a place to speak for him, and do so with 100% confidence. Your comment with its four different questions could have been unfairly misinterpreted by others and without a concrete accusation you were wrong to even pose such questions.

user
Helm (Level 5 Detective) at 12/19/2006 7:28:06 PM
Jalonso, you roll your eyes at my comment, but it's not your place to speak.

user
Larwick (Level 8 Regional Boss) at 12/19/2006 12:22:47 PM
buloght, your scale of improvement is magnificent. I think this is your best work yet, and because it's a dragon, should quite definetely be in the rankings for greatest in the gallery. I must say though, the legs are looking a little whacky, especially the one bending quite a bit inward. Anyway, bloody lush.

user
goldy (Level 1 Rookie) at 12/19/2006 11:43:50 AM
How do you go about creating something like that? It's great!

Excellent work (as always)!!

I love that left (it's right) wing!

Some of the outlines looks very strong and jaggy, but that could just be my theme causing that.  (bright background).

Keep 'em coming man!

Is there a source for this? Some warhammer manual or something? Or is it completely of your own design? Also, 32 colors? Looks more like 16.

The B.O.B. (Level 11 Master Assassin) at 12/19/2006 5:09:11 AM
Nice. I love the texture, and pallete of the dragons head, and the way you've defined it's' perspective, which is a tricky one at that. I'm just having issues with the way it's hind legs are looking at the moment(especially the left), and how jaggy, or crooked it's bone structure of the wings are looking also. The eyes are kinda' confusing me too, unless they're meant to be chameleon type eyes. Other than those small blemishes, this is great. Again, love the detail to the scales, fantastic job!
