Amazing piece of index painting. Good job,

Regarding BG and FG division...
The most common method to make the FG stand out is to use the so-called air-perspective, that is, to make the features in the back a bit bluer and less cotrast-y the further they are away.
A good example of this is Buloght's winter scouts.
Hope this helps.

This one's a killer!
Love the boss, love the love that's in every little bit of scenery!

Really cool. So much funny details, nice dithering and colours.

Oh my god. You invaded all three top pixel art slots!!! And the worst thing is... you deserved it! Fantastic work and style. Favvved!

nvision (Level 3 Corporate Drone) at 1/9/2007 7:33:11 AM
Ah, fantastic work, as always, Jan!  It's always good to see your highly-rendered splash screens! :)  I especially love the depth in this piece...nice attention to fg/mg/bg dimension.

Gunstar_Red (Level 1 Rookie) at 1/4/2007 3:08:56 AM
Went smoothly for me as well, working with Francesco was great just the kind of programmer i like to work with, lots of feedback and work in progress builds for me to see my artwork in action.

Was great to have worked with you both on something!

Riva (Level 4 Lieutenant) at 1/3/2007 3:17:00 PM
Mykola: Im sorry it ended bad for you with Minicip.
For me the cooperation was smooth. We easily agreed on price and they even accepted some of my schedule issues arised due to my constant overworkednes (is it actual word? :).

For the rates - I checked your pj and web portfolio and theres not whole lot to see yet.
So, while its surely good to aim high, maybe you should consider that you are relatively new to the business (or at least it seem so) and thus can't get the money Henk Nieborg's gettin. ;)
(And sadly neither can I :)
So cheer up and come work with us at PixelLive for 1 penny and slice of bread per day ;)

Mykola (Level 2 Flatfoot) at 1/3/2007 1:38:37 PM

The nature of the outsourcing with the company was such, that while I worked on it, I had no idea who the other artists were, as I understand neither did Gunstar and Riva :).

My input was really small tho, I only did some objects like the battery and a platform or two ingame. Besides I worked literally for like a week, and then we had a 'dispute' over the hourly rate (not to mention I only later realized that I was basically lowballed with the rate we agreed upon..)..

So it all ended on a sour note. I hope other artists had better experience with the company. The only thing I learned from my experience is not to settle for hourly rates when telecommuting and go for pay-per-piece basis.

And also I had to educate myself on the average pixel artists hourly rates, and ALSO the minimum wage in other countries LOL  :D.

sorry for doublepost (why cant my own msgs be edited?):

BlackEye - yeah you right, but it was +- intentional.
If you look at Gunstars(?) style for ingame characters - its kind of cartoony, low-col.
And Miniclip pushed that the characters on the ilustration are well recoginzable.
So I originaly wanted them just 'outline and color'. Had them done so in 1st version.
Then I got lost in pixelling and kind of ended up somewhere in the middle with style ;)

Anyway there are things that bother me more in the image then this. Like - I think its a bit over-featured. I offten have problem with making good FG-BG composition (layout) for fullscreen images.
Dont some1 have some digestable book \ tut for that btw ? ;)

Riva (Level 4 Lieutenant) at 1/3/2007 9:37:18 AM
Gustar - So it was YOU who done the ingame ? Avesome!

I sent my regards and kudos for you (and anybody else who worked on the rest of the game gfx) via Francesco from Miniclip. Dunno if they got to you all thought.

Any way I love your work on the game! ;)

BTW its funny we worked on game together and didnt even know. :) I guess it might happen with outsourcing a lot.
What else you worked on lately ?

Gunstar_Red (Level 1 Rookie) at 1/3/2007 9:09:52 AM
Of course I've seen this a while back while I was working on the actual game, loved it back then still love it now, really great to see my characters realised by another artist.

milkyjon (Level 4 Murderer) at 1/3/2007 6:54:08 AM
I always thought that Gunstar_Red, or Gry from Army of trolls did the game graphics (must have just been ingame ones tho). Guess there must have been quite a few comissioned artists if Mykola worked on it aswell...ohh teamwork, exciting.  This is awsome by the way, so much detail, you've managed to include everything. fav

horcy (Level 2 Corporal) at 1/3/2007 2:48:28 AM
Another winner from Riva. Only your thumpnail is out of scale

Mykola (Level 2 Flatfoot) at 1/3/2007 1:02:42 AM

Looks great!

Funny thing is, I did some sprites for this game, but my gig was rather kind of short :D even tho I got paid.

BlackEye (Level 2 Quiet One) at 1/2/2007 11:16:25 PM
you did such a great job on the background - lovely details and superb color choice, but the characters lack detail and colors. especially the red suit of the main character, one or two more colors would do better (look at the highlight and compare to the background) - same to the hair

anyways, great artwork

buloght (Level 6 SWAT) at 1/2/2007 4:00:04 PM
What tomic said. I am glad you have submitted something again

tomic (Level 10 Lieutenant General) at 1/2/2007 3:55:30 PM

wow, yes! this perfectly is after my fancy.. full of nice details (like the tentacle in thar radioactive barrel, oh i love tentacles) and clean, not overdithered style

i think i've found my alltime favourite.. or at least one of my two =P
