EDGAR ALLAN POE (1809-1849);
worked from scratch, with help of a printed reference picture I found in a book.
CGA|320*200 gfx mode, should be viewed on full screen (rectangle pixels), preferably through a DOS-compatibile img viewer.

I haven't really liked CGA, I just couldn't buy it... until I saw some of the recent Lackley's works. Obviously, there were (and are) lots of interesting CGA pieces I liked (and like) before, but they just didn't push me to make my own, like Lackley's did.
It took me a few days of work, 1/2h daily, to learn why this guy loves the palette. I, too, fell in love with it and I'm quite happy with the effect (which doesn't happen often). Thank you!

If you like it, please leave a comment;
if you don't, critique is also welcome*!

*though I consider it finished

Still like this alot.
However, I believe the 'no copy' tag on the skene meant that the piece was done without reference.
Anyway, Edgar's expression is awesome! Gotta FAV!

Great! It's nice the picture got so many details (hair, scarf) and you manage to give the face an interesting expression.

The way you BOLDed it made me hear :) Glad to dig this oldskul stuff and glad to see you like the avvy. As for the artwork I think it's rendered really well, especially the curly hair (suppose it was a pretty hard part).

Thanks! Actually the avatar isn't mine as it was made by a talented pixeler named Gas13, [explore].

The NO COPY tag is a kind of a demoscene fashion (like I said in the comment below), used there just as an expression of my demoscene fondness. It means that I, myself, made the piece from scratch and it wasn't ripped by any means. I was working with a reference photograph tho.

I know it might sound a little hypocritical. :D

Very very nice.
But, what does "no copy" mean? You did it from memory? Or did E.A.Poe pose for it? :D
Also, you have a very nice avatar!

Hehe, gotcha. But what can I do about it? When I reply in a non-English-language, I always add a clue of what it's about (in English of course).

Vielen Dank und Grüß dich! :D

simply terrific..
i just love how you did the hairs and scarf,
dang! 7/7+faved

though something that bothers me for a while now is if like 60% of the comments on a piece are in a language 99% of the people in the community don't speak.. feels like being on a party on the day your team won the worldcup and everybody only talks about astrophysics (i know, i suck on comparisons =)

no offense, but it doesn't really accelerate the whole discussion

I can't understand people raving about how hard it is to work with such palette.
If you were to exchange the blue for light grey, and pink for dark grey it would be simply a four-color greyscale piece. And they're not hard at all.
Anyway - quite nice, but the blank space around the portrait is absolutely unneeded.

It's a signature; the NO COPY tag was/is a demoscene manner of stating the piece uniqueness.

Whats with the BG and copy on the left. It distracts from an otherwise good pixel.

Oh wow, a CGA-coloured pixelart! How nostalgic. You did a really good job at managing those difficult colours. Kudos on the subject matter too, Edger Allan Poe is awesome.
