My entry for the 'Bille Jean' challenge.
Isn't it funny how people seem ominous when lit from below?
Note the the amazing diagonal signature! :D

As usual the bright backgorund eats away at the image, that's why i added a bit of a border.

I love how the preview doesn't show the guy's face. That's just ingenious.

user

@exocet: How true. It would also have probably been unfinished :D

user
exocet (Level 6 Major) at 4/12/2007 12:05:46 PM
I love it! The style is very original and the colours are just perfect! It would have been even better with a non-mirrored face though ;)

user
iLKke (Level 8 Guerrilla) at 4/11/2007 12:39:01 AM
Not necessarily. Like, I really WANTED to fix the arm on one of my other pieces, but I just never got around to it :D

hahahaha do jaja! i looovvvve the face and espetialy little diagonal logo hahahaha

user
iLKke (Level 8 Guerrilla) at 4/10/2007 2:32:32 AM
@jedzed: Yeah I know that part doesn't make any sense but I really enjoyed playing with diagonal texture so that's why I left it that way. Almost the whole area should be black to make it look more realistic, but since this is done purely for fun, I'll just leave it be.

user
jedzed (Level 2 Flatfoot) at 4/10/2007 1:53:03 AM
although the face does look a bit too split down the middle if you know what i mean and i think you should join the pink areas next to where its split together, and on the nose  above the illuminated bit should be all blacki then start fading into the green skin tone and an actual nose like trunk bit if you see what i mean

user
jedzed (Level 2 Flatfoot) at 4/10/2007 1:48:06 AM
lol awesome i like the eye area

user

Thanks ppl!
I wasn't very talkative the day I upped this, but now I think a 'verbal WIP' will address some issues that you guys have mentioned...

Okay, first of all I started with an ordinary face, only with a split tongue sticking out. Later i ditched the tongue, cause it complicated the lighting a lot. Also at one point I wasn't satisfied with the face cause it had no character at all so i 'misplaced' the eyes and widened the skull to get the dramatic composition I wanted. I wanted the head to be so massive that it feels like it's crowding the viewer's field of vision, hence the 2d-ish space saturating shading. The face itself was almost finished rather quickly using 8 grays, which then I changed into the colors you see now. Next of course i did the sweater, using abundant dithering to get the wooly effect. Also I avoided adding many new colours, instead mixing what I already had, forcing myself into yet more dithering. In the end I had spare colors so I colored the teeth. I also had colored the eyes at one point but they lost that lunatic flame and so I reverted them. The final stages were adding the badge, cause the chest seemed bland otherwise, and wasting another color or two to smooth out the odd bit. Badge also worked great as a highlight, cause I always love bits that are very close to the lightsource.
I know some parts of the image don't make much sense, especially above the nose, but I just felt like getting carried away :D

user

Wow  amazing... we had the same idea but yours is definitely much better... I really love the lighting on the sweater..and on the body mainly..  The contrast of treatment between the body and the head works pretty well and the face is really in focus... strangely tho it looks pretty flat..

5/5 of course, my favorite of the challenge so far and probably until the end..

This is awesome! My favorite entry so far. ( and yes, the diagonal sig is quite craptacular!)

Prepare yourself, filthy human! You've just been fav'ed...

This is probably one of my favourite one of your pieces yet. Great colour choices. I love the heart pin on his shirt!

user
Doppleganger (Level 6 Yonkyu) at 4/6/2007 9:27:04 PM
Haha! That's great!
The text and preview really add to the whole feel of the piece. It was a bit of a shock to see how creepy he was.

The colors of his face are quite nice and the fact that you maintained a boyish feel to the rather demonic face is pretty astonishing.

6/6 fav'd
