Okay, to cut a long story short, this is a part of an ad campaign pitch to Puma I was doing in January 2007.

The campaign was supposed to be centered around Puma's classic Suede/Clyde sneakers.

Unfortunately, the whole thing never came to life, so I'm just publishing it as part of my portfolio now.

This is really nice, great colors.. very like old school style. I would have loved seen this on some big advert.

nah bball time didn't pass for nyc, even tho Knicks were 10000 times better ten years ago :).

basketball is rather the timeless classic element, instead of outdated classic :)

and in all honesty - I love eboy and their style (and I love pop-culture as well :D). even more, I credit them as the people who initially motivated me as a pixel artist. I think the influence still shows thru :).

you think puma wouldn't go with colors like this? I dunno it seems they usually go with pretty much any colors there are, especially when it comes to shoes :)

Pretty clear, thanks. Has the basketball time passed for NY? That's confusing. Or was that just a mega-popularity period?

pixel art is apparently linked with old-school in pop-culture

Sad but true. That's why eboy and stuff are so popular.

Very much a win and the colors are daring for such a brand but within the range of possibilities.

the ad campaign also included photo/mixed media illustrations (which y'all can see at my deviantart), which were based on NYC photography, and more closely related to the city itself.

to provide contrast to the photo-based ads, the pixelart ad series were much more freestyle and abstract. no direct references, rather free-flowing vibe.

this particular ad is supposed to catch the vibe of the early 90's, hence the propellerheads, boomboxes, basketball and nintendo pads aand the colors :) quite simple.

as for why pixel-art as illustration style was chosen, it's because:

1) pixel art is apparently linked with old-school in pop-culture, and the campaign was for old-school shoes 2) it's not as widely used, or may I say more exclusive than more popular styles such as grungy illustrations or vector.

hope that answers the question, I dunno how well I explained it :D

Looks stylish. I'm curious how nintendo linked with puma :) I would like to know the idea behind this serie.

Long story long please :)

thank you, that's really a high compliment as I probably spend more time picking the right colors than on anything else :)
