they didn't exactly have dracula's car, but they did have a spooky car, and a lot of purple and black in the actual cartoon :) the races were at night

purple, nice taste, it's sort of inspired by that cartoon Wacky Races, remember it? the Dracula's racecar, space version :)

Nope, never read that.. I did play a whole lot of space-race games tho, F-Zero probably being my favorite :).

Yeah I know the perspective isn't really wrong, I just forgot the correct 'official' name of it :D.

And as to why the cars are so simple, I stripped them down of TRON/Blade Runner/KR type of gimmicks, because I wanted the pic to be more minimalistic and straightforward, and also that allows for more solid fills, to bring out the bright colors :)

(it still is a matter of preference of course :))

Have you ever read Alien Speedway by Jeffrey A. Carver, Thomas Wylde and Roger Zelazny? I've read the book (It came out from Eksmo in 2005 by name 'Zvezdniy Speedway') when I was obsessed with F-Zero, Hi-Octane and other futuristic racing games - it explores themes of such races. And it's nothing wrong with such perspective - Earthbound, for instance, uses it. I like the picture and particular fact that RED car obviously wins. Cars also look tasty, but designs are too simple - more from 30's Buck Rogers movies than Blade Runner or Knight Rider at least, which would blow everybody away.
