In normal Multicolor Bitmap mode you can have 3 colours + 1 universal background colour (any out of the 16 of the palette) in each character (tile) which is 4x8 pixels in this case because of the halving on horizontal resolution. Jamon's pic does not look like it's multicolor, but it would be possible in other mods and with stuff like sprite overlays, esp since it is so tiny :)

I think it's actually 2 colors including black.

I'm not totally sure on this, but can't you only use 3 colours + black (or universal bg colour) in every 8x8 square in that mode of c64?
