Ah that's simple. To level up, you can rate pieces, post comments like we are doing now, and submit pixel art (duh :p). The less popular options include submitting quotes, news articles, and links. For a better explanation, go here.

Ahaha, no need to say that, I'm hardly skilled. I have a long way to go before I can pixel things that are actually nice to look at :p

The time it takes to improve is based on how badly you want to get better. The more practice at pixeling you have, the faster you'll learn the basics and move on to more interesting stuff. The best way to start is by pixeling things you really like, this makes it fun to learn. While doing that, make sure you get tips from tutorials, and especially study other people's work. You can learn a lot of techniques by going to a member's gallery and looking through their works, just zoom in on the picture and see how they shaded, textured, colored, etc. Good luck ;)

No problem. The first and second pages of the tutorial should be enough for now; when you want to get really detailed, you can keep going.
