I think the "faces" part just need a big more contrast to bring out the details a bit more.

If the eye/mouth color was darkened, it would help it stand out more. But an overall increase in contrast in the colors may solve it all. The faces are much more clear if they are dark (tried it out with "sharpen" in iaza and I could tell what the faces were - however sharpen is not pixel-friendly)
