Butch Coolidge and Marcellus Wallace from the tip top Tarantino's movie, say, the chase scene. . . Mockup Frenzy #7/Pixelation, Pulp Fiction ported to NES. it'd make a hell of a game, deffo!

yep, I'm aware of some major perspective problems (Civic is off), but, for crap's sake. . . no nerves to set it up right, just turn a blind eye! ;)

Hmm, I want to go back in time and fit the NES with sprite masks, opening up a palette slot, just to get this game out :)

Anyway work is great too ;)

No problem, I just got into NES programming, and it would have been nice to run this.

Don't worry about the counters/menus though, that's all tiles, not sprites. Otherwise, no NES game would ever have decent score displays. There's a way to catch a scanline interrupt to make sure the HUD doesn't scroll...

quoting myself (from Pixelation, the link is placed just above):
"I didn’t give a damn for the limitations. . . there are 4 different bg palettes tho, made of 13/16 available colors, plus regular 8x8 square tiles/sprites. character palettes, however, consist of 5 (instead of 4) colors, including the transparent black. I’ve made a few alternate low-palette models, but these were my favorite. the next thing I kind of omitted (i.e. stopped controlling at some point) is the 16x16 block rule. . . oh, well, it could be right, but I didn’t feel like checking and screwing with it. counters/menus stuff wouldn’t run as well (1 mark equals 1 sprite and the goddamn ‘8 sprites per scanline’ thing), or if even, it’d prolly cause that terrible flickering effect. . ."

sorry for not putting any info in here, my fault. . . :)

I tried throwing this into a real NES rom, but unfortunately, the sprites don't follow NES restrictions. You made palettes that have 4 colors + transparency, while you only get 3 colors +trans. Also, Marcellus + Butch = 5 sprites wide, which leaves hardly space for more enemies, but that's fixable through game design. Also, even if the palettes were correct, you use up 5 or more of them just for the two characters, which is more than you are allowed to.

It's a shame, because I would have loved to create a NES demo out of this...

hehe, fanx!!!

go on, Gil, feel free to add some more; I think I might also try so that we can compete ;).

@ iSTVAN : the car is stock 1980 Honda Civic but those two really look similar. the funny thing is that in almost every Tarantino's movie the car is crashed, destroyed or shown as a total wreck -- it seems he must-a really disliked this mark.

The car looks really similar to mine. Although it's not like I designed the car! I love how pinheaded the character designs are. Nice work.

Great! By the time I spotted the civic I stopped thinking about perspective. I just thought "Dang! That car's sweet!"

God yes!

Question: Do you mind me having fun with this? I'd love to extend it and make more stuff for it like extra characters perhaps...

great!

Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead.

Hatch (Level 3 Private Eye) at 4/21/2008 8:27:25 PM
It would be worse off if the perspective were correct. instafave

Darth Mandarb (Level 7 Mass Murderer) at 4/21/2008 8:16:07 PM
haha this is excellent!  I could totally tell that was Butch!

Where's Zed??

surt (Level 10 Maniac) at 4/21/2008 8:14:56 PM
That's not Butch. That's Conrad!

Great stuff.
