Cannon shot nicknamed because of the twinkling effect that comes after the main blast.  Here just the center tile of the blast, but the 4 adjacent squares will also get small animations.

Looks real, love it, +fav

This achieves the goal of seeming like a weak blast. You did a good job, and the sparkling looking effect really does give that gingerly feel to the explosion.

yes - for better or for worse, by hand is the only way to do things.

I'm having trouble deciding how to do the basic cannon shots because they really are not more powerful than any other attack such as a sword strike etc, so to power them up more than a comparable attack seems wrong....idk.  this one was done based around the idea of fireworks more than a bomb for this reason.  do people feel that it fails as being a weak attack? or just that it fails in being superpowerful (which it should not be)?

Cool... It looks really fluid, and it looks like you drew each frame by hand. Did you?

Metaru (Level 8 Brigadier General) at 5/9/2008 2:31:48 AM
more like a firework that went the other way around. but i understand that these sparks are just an exe candy for the explosion.

could you provide a mockup how does the complete explosion should look(with all the adjacent squares) in order to see it in context?

I feel like it doesn't have any weight to it too. the movement is slower than a real shot, and it looks like it just pops above the ground, releasing confetti or something like that

The animation's got a great fluid feel to it Nathan, im not surprised atall it's very well executed. But it isn't exactly a violent bang at all, more than anything just somethings bursting but have to say got a nice charm to it.

fixed height in main version, though preserving original in preview just in case i start hearing the opposite.

opacus - perhaps for a more impressive attack, this is meant as the regular shot (which, granted, requires a turn to load and a turn to fire, rather than the regular sword attack) - but yeah, most of what i was doing was cutting down it down rather than building it up

Very nice, smooth animation.

Vertigo's right about new twinkles appearing higher than the first ones.

Vertigo-Zero (Level 8 Brigadier General) at 5/4/2008 10:00:32 AM

Im sorry to say, but dont listen to Opacus THIS TIME :P My only critic is that the twinkles get shot away, so its normal they spread that far, but after the first twinkles disappear, new one appear even higher :S especially show top left... Get what I mean? My english is not that good...

It's pretty cool. But I think a bit of a flash might do this animation good? Maybe the simple black circle white circle thing. Or maybe make it far brighter at the point of impact.
It just feels like it's missing punch. Maybe you intended it that way. But seeing as it's a 'blast' I think a bigger feel of impact would make this animation even sweeter then it already is.

BlackDragon (Level 10 Capo) at 5/4/2008 8:46:53 AM

OH MY GOD.

This is brilliant. LOVE the twinkles!
