No, that's not the case. Nobody's trying to gang up on you. It's just that this particular method serves no merit to learning how to draw sprites. At least, not in the form of a TUTORIAL. Ie, most people probably wouldn't benefit from this as a learning tool. But if it's your METHOD of drawing, then keep on trucking. : )...just trying to make sure you understand the difference...
Below average artists shouldn't be teaching other below average artists how to draw.

Ahh, personal method makes sense. You see, "tutorial" is meant for others to use and learn. And with this method, I didn't honestly see how it helps building mini sprites. There are other ways, and the shape method is just a knock off of basic art shapes building more complex shapes, and volumes...
It does seem a little odd. Mind explaining what you are trying to accomplish using this method? In other words how does it help you create a better sprite using this method?

umm...The method in this tutorial doesn't seem very sturdy, if you ask me.
