I was inspired by the electric flower challenge... however it didnt end up an electric flower... it ended up a pretty faerie circle...

/shrugs

Works for me!

17 colors, MSP

*edit again* made a tutorial for mountains. Their too stupid-easy to make, to get accused of copying someone else for lol!

Great atmosphere and colors, they really set the mood! The whole piece hums with magical energy, from the composition down to the little details. I particularly admire the light filtering through the trees. It evokes the wonder of a sunset without actually depicting one. Very imaginative!

Just love the whole dream faerie land, great shading and light.

MadProductions119 (Level 3 Corporate Drone) at 1/17/2009 6:06:28 PM

I've admired your work for a few years now, and I must say, no matter how many times I see your work, I never get bored of it!
This is absolutely amazing! I love the effects depicted in this piece. The glow in random places, the leaves of the trees, the distant mountains, it's all so realistic! Absolutely gorgeous!

I love the circle of mushrooms, but I think the rest of the scene detracts from it somewhat. The bushes and trees seem a bit sketchy and flat. I think round objects would need to have a light source in the center of the image to be lit like that. Once the sun sets, the dominant light source would be the sky, which is still fairly bright, so I don't think you would get so many dark shadows since the trees and bushes would be lit from above and around. Trees have lots of gaps in their foliage, and you would have brighter clusters of leaves scattered around, with the darkest parts in the very center of the foliage (the volumetric center, that is, not the visual) and towards the bottom. The texture they have now is more similar to moss, really. More pronounced leaves would help.

I suggest using reference for trees in the beginning, since foliage is tricky enough to draw without having to guess. Keep experimenting, though. I think your most recent pieces have been the most interesting.

*shiny eyes* Very nice

dogmeat says -  I didn't really notice the holes with light coming out of them at first, I think they may be too much and look almost like lights instead of rays of light coming through the brush.

THATS A GOOD THING! - As I said, this piece was going to be entered in the electric flower challenge, THEY WERE lights coming OUT of the tree, rather than through the trees. (the wip shows the original 'lights' shining up as well) but then I was smart enough to ask for specifics befor I made the mistake of entering it and making an ass out of myself. I didnt feel like fixing the light projecting to 'shine through' and submitted it as you see now.

Thats kind of a win-win then now lol!

Jaeden (Level 4 Team Leader) at 7/20/2008 7:01:38 PM

I didnt save the wips for the mountains on this piece, Considering they take only 10-20 minutes to make.

Why save progress steps for something that takes no effort?

Which is why I made a tutorial... and linked it... they arent hard to do, like AT ALL. so please, get over yourselves, and try it for yourself!

Jaeden (Level 4 Team Leader) at 7/20/2008 12:54:35 PM

Woo the critits take lash!

What ever you do, dont dare try and get better from what you already do! lol.

I have 3 tutorials up now, for y'all nubs out there

 /kisses!

Fairies. Alternate world, Ptoing!

At least thats my take on it. Great job Jaeden. Very similar to that other landscape peice though.

ptoing (Level 7 Underboss) at 7/20/2008 8:00:25 AM
Risking that I sound like an ass here, but have you actually ever done a google image search for mountains, or looked at some real ones? Mountains to NOT look like that.

Vertigo-Zero (Level 8 Brigadier General) at 7/20/2008 6:29:42 AM
Awesome work! I did liked it better with the lights at the top of the trees as well...

Edit: lol gud english yes?

FlyGuy (Level 7 Underboss) at 7/20/2008 6:02:27 AM

Are these Amanitas in the dark or some Copelandia?

juandifool (Level 3 Stalker) at 7/19/2008 1:55:06 PM
I like to sleep there or try one of the mushrooms.

Darth Mandarb (Level 8 Brigadier General) at 7/19/2008 5:42:11 AM
I'm totally lovin' the DOF on this ... the mountains/sky in the BG are fantastic

and yes, your style is your own ... keep up the inspiring work!

RoboBOT (Level 6 Commander) at 7/18/2008 3:22:09 PM
Beautiful piece, well done! The texture and lighting of the grass is really nice, great job on that. The spot where the light comes through the tree on the left looks a bit flat. Thanks for the mountains tutorial, those look great!

Jaeden (Level 4 Team Leader) at 7/18/2008 1:51:49 PM
