Decided (tried) to avoid the use of dithering. Not really a fan of this C64 palette, but I did enjoy working on this.

Edit: Gave the girl a shadow. Updated spark.

Edit: Further updated from help with the guys at pixelation.
(hands, leg, blur on pie, AA etc...)
Very likely it will need some more TLC, but I'm submitting this update now, just in case I'm unable to over the weekend.

Cheers for the comments!

@Riva - Looking at this piece now, this was a major turning point for me in learning how to not use dithering and be brave enough to play around with colours. Unfortunately I can now see that I failed on using the black in certain areas in this piece where it looks harsh such as under her face, top of her back and other places. I was going to leave it as a reminder to me to be aware of how you use colours, but I think I may polish it in the future.

A pretty cool piece. One of a few that made me stop and admire.
Not fan of the weird retro paletes aswell, but I wish we had this kind of graphic in games back at C64 ;)

She's actually pretty cute. I love this piece :)!

I thought this entry was really original and I loved the overall theme.  This was my favorite entry.

Wonderful shading, and this got one of my votes.  Great work!

metaldev (Level 4 Button Man) at 2/8/2009 8:26:22 PM
this is good. I think its much harder to make a happy clown than a deformed or evil clown.

Dex (Level 11 Psychopath) at 2/5/2009 5:27:52 PM
oooh very nice!

Antiboton (Level 6 Serial Killer) at 2/5/2009 7:06:45 AM
WOOOW! The winner! She's hot even with that color pallette.

Stickman (Level 5 Detective) at 2/5/2009 6:46:21 AM
@Delfos: Good Point!!! It's supposed to cast light .
The movement effect was tricky to get. I really wanted to get a nice blur, but my ability and skill with this palette is limited:)

Delfos (Level 5 Killer Klown) at 2/5/2009 6:26:17 AM
I like it! But there are a few things i don't, like the "movement" effect of the pie, and another little detail: Why the spark casts a shadow?

Great piece anyway!

Thanks for the comments.

@iLKke: I did start to give her a shadow, but  I wasn't to sure where to place it, amongst all the other stuff in the background. I'll try and work  the shadow to fit it in front of her.

banane4joy (Level 5 Detective) at 2/5/2009 2:33:51 AM
Haha very fun :D  nice job!

iLKke (Level 8 Cannibal) at 2/5/2009 1:45:02 AM
Rocks!
BUT: the girl should also have a shadow on the wall for the illusion of space to be complete.

Sev_4 (Level 4 Deputy) at 2/5/2009 1:43:01 AM
Really nice and fun, I'll vote for you!
