My submission to Breakpoint 2009 C64 Graphics competition. My first c64 work ever made. Multicolor C64 picture - resolution 160x200 (wide pixels) and 16 colours (every 8x8 pixel block allows only three colours + background colour). Picture took 4th place (of 8 total) and I think that for my first time work it's surprisingly good. There are some flaws and bugs, but unfortunately due to lack of time I haven't fix them. Enjoy!

PS. Huge thanks to Skurwy for help with C64 pixels!

cool, very nice mCol piece! ^^ actually ive seen this in a some video of the breakpoint c64 challenge on youtube i guess..! nice to see it in good quality now...  but i agree bout the roughness of bg and balloon, maybe some dithering to fade the colors would help

Sounds like a plan dakael, I'll use the For(ce)... I mean google!

Yup, there is some software to do this. I used a plugin for ProMotion. It wasn't so fast and easy to use, but it was best for me. You could try for example Project One or Congo painting software. Just hunt the Google :)

Really nice, I'm loving it :) Is there an easy way to check if you have too many colors in a 8x8 pixel block?

dakael (Level 5 Killer Klown) at 4/27/2009 7:42:17 AM

C64 has locked palette. Colours could not be changed in any way. Colour mapping could only vary - I used the famous Pepto palette (lighter version).

Beautiful. Not much of a fan of the colors though.

Well, in fact ACEMAN was responsible for picture delivery and audio and mental support :)

All flaws and bugs are mine. I know they are pretty rubbish and sloppy, but I had no more time to fix this. I was working at other picture (non pixellated) in meanwhile and that was my major work for the party. But unfortunatelly (or maybe fortunatelly ;)) my pixelllated c64 work got a higher place than non-pixellated one. Non pixellated picture can be seen here: http://dakael.deviantart.com/art/Messenger-of-lust-119877555

Must agree. Maybe it was a time issue since its quite sloppy in areas which is unlike dakael's work.

hey, my resultsfile said DARKLIGHT'VEEZYA and ACEMAN of BINARY BROS.. didn't know it was you. nice picture, though i have to second skurwy about the backgound and roughly pixeled baloon

kudos for keeping the spirit alive, haven't been to breakpoint for two years now.

congratz on the fourth place.  I do like this one, and as this is your first picture using the restrictions, I must admit you managed to cover it all pretty well.  the one thing I'm not a big fan of is the background -- as it seems slightly neglected and too much Veto-ish for me.  in overall, the ship could be polished further -- there's a bit of a discrepancy between the ship's body and the baloon (while the former is almost meticulously rendered, the latter is very sketchy), but it still gets a nice outcome. pozdro!

wonderful work, ship design, and I am almost even thinking of making a ship like that myself, but in real! It might actually work if you do not try to use it in air xD

Again, great work, and works well with c64 palette and restrictions!
