I would make an engine for you just to see this in action. This is awesome
Beautiful work, the bg competes with the character for attention with so much detail. In motion, smaller canvas same pixel sizes, or an outline of some sort around the character would peel them apart nicely. Loving the story behind it, great palette too

I especially like how the colours fade in the lower regions. Adds a nice atmosphere :)

but the background is really detailled and cool
nice design, but too dark for me :( (i just dont like dark games)

Awesome stuff, I love the way how the background colors darken at the bottom.
every time I start a new project I see something so incredibly wonderful like this, and then I go and start a new project. You've got distinct style and I couldn't see where there'd be any need for improvement. Thanks for the inspirations over the years

I still haven't fixed the FireFox zooming thing, and this is the first time that I think it benefits the piece - it looks just like an SNES game on an SDTV! The amount of colors used surprises me, but I really really don't care - this is awesome work, top-notch quality work dude. Fantastic.
The background is fantastic, but the character doesn't really "pop".
Reminds me of Resident Evil though.
This looks gritty and awesome! Maybe try using warm colors for the sprite to give it visual priority.
