Thats not pillow shading, pillow shading is light in the center, correct, but the light radiates outward in all directions, no just left and right, theres a difference. Personally I like the shading, I just think you don't like it because you are against pillow shading because it is renown as an awful thing for pixel art. Not trying to put words in your mouth, but just guessing.

No pillowshading, frontal light. That's different. The raised hand could cast a shadow, though.

What would be real nice is a short delay between hit and face change. Maybe... And maybe play it a little faster.

The middle of each drum is the lightest with the outside edges being the darkest. Meaning the light source is between the viewer and the art. Hence, pillow shading.

The pillow shading I was referring to is the way that the two bongos are shaded in lines that go darker as it gets toward the outside. Hence, pillow shading. I don't know if that's the right word, but that's what I've got.

It's rather simplistic, but is an OK piece. The pillow shading turns me off, and you could have added a couple more frames to make it smoother. I actually like the hands and face, they go together well in a style. The mouths are a bit off, since the faces lose teeth when they are sad.

Also, you blew my mind, as I was listening to music when i saw this and it matched the music perfectly.

At another (crappy) computer I saw this, and I was expecting an animation.. But nothing happened.

And now here, I see it is one :D

Pretty good, but the hands look blocky and...PILLOW SHADING! D: Also, I'd add more frames.
