To cure a creative block I decided to help DeProgrammer with his SHMUP game project called Rendezvous Delano for the DS.

Some project info is here.

This is just a mockup of the items I've made so far. The Boss spins 90 degrees and shoots the tiny ships then rotates again. This is why it has no light source. The middle is the same but dead and the 3rd appears before the boss does.

The nebula too is an enemy. SHown in-game at 50% opacity. I'll show that on its own later.

Animations are simulations only. All is coded including additional explosions not made by me.

Not too many colors per sprite. Each enemy has its own palette. Palettes supplied.

Manhonri, I'm just showing sprites and elements I've made for the game. This is just a simulation and the nebula will not be shown ingame like it is here. I had to work with my star BG loop and the nebula had to go that speed to work.

Great work!  The only thing that's bothering me is the horizontal movement of the nebula.  In space everything is so far away, that it would all pretty much be moving in the same direction and at the same speed in relation to the player.  And as an enemy, it would likely need to be close which would make it extremely huge.  Like light-years huge.  

But given the fact that it could be some other entity altogether, none of this may be relevent...

@Kaiseto, Squirrelsquid has been over my shoulder while working on these. I miss him and hope he's back with us soon.

The colors here were supplied. The death animation is part code part explosions I did not make.

Very spiffy looking. I like the teleportation effect, espcially on the ship.

This could be a whole new direction for you. Glad to hear you've broken your creativity block.

All joking aside, kickass sprite work. The palette stands out to me in particular. There's just a really great spectrum from purples to greens to yellows.

Also, loving the destruction(?) animation.

How you're going to make a light-years-wide nebula fit with them is another story...
