You have some nice colors in here, and I like the stone style! To make this thing a little less static, pretent that the blue enemies are animated and all give them a different pose from their walking animation. Just fiddle around with the legs and perhaps the 'hair', and you have gotten an active picture, instead of this static one!

I don't know why those clouds are what they are, I don't like the background overall, but according to the description you already even made improvement :).

Nice work on the sprites, and again the colors (of the foreground, not the background) are fun!
