Very solid animation, indeed. Very great job on this, and the execution's pretty sweet, too!

johanvinet (Level 6 SWAT) at 9/20/2012 11:53:42 AM

 Really impressive explosion !

user
solrac (Level 1 Rookie) at 9/3/2012 8:18:00 PM

Of course he was trolling. I hate when someone writes trash about someone else's work to see if he can benefit from that in a challenge or simply because of jealousy. I think this was the case, and it's not the first time I see this guy doing that (on the other hand his picture really had many more "mistakes" than this).

This picture is amazing and deserved to win.

P.d. sorry for my english.

user
Calv (Level 7 Assassin) at 8/29/2012 1:57:28 PM

Thanks for your comments philippe, I actually thought you were just trolling at first, but now I realise you weren't. Unfortunately it's a weekly challenge and so I can't make any further modifications to the piece, I was under a time limit to get it finished within the week. I think I mentioned in an earlier post that the desired frame results didn't come out exactly as it showed within the programme that I used to create the animated gif image.
please note as eclap has pointed out, it's just a weekly challenge somewhat based off a cartoon (Wall-E), it wasn't a take at a realistic look of Mars for a documentary, im happy with the it, it was good enough to get me a shiny blue ribbon so i'll just leave it as is.

user
philippejugnet (Level 5 Sniper) at 8/29/2012 12:22:30 PM

Yes, I know, I was just telling him, and then he comes with sarcasm...

user
eclep (Level 4 Deputy) at 8/29/2012 12:03:40 PM

Chill out philippe, this piece isn't a documentary on mars.

And remember this has been done for a weekly challenge, which mean Calv had a limited time to do it. And because of the awesome animation that may have taken a lot of time, I'm sure you can understand that there are still some imperfections.

user
philippejugnet (Level 5 Sniper) at 8/29/2012 8:25:25 AM

It is 70% lower then here so basically no gravity, the mud won't splash it would just float around for some seconds. And there is not that strong effect on collisiong because there is no air.

I am a little tired of people, I don't give a damn you do it to improve or just leave your piece with mistakes I don't care.

user
Calv (Level 7 Assassin) at 8/29/2012 1:49:20 AM

No Gravity on mars... seriously?

user
philippejugnet (Level 5 Sniper) at 8/28/2012 3:10:04 PM

just would like to point it out, maybe I am chosing the wrong words to show you my point and I might sound a little rude but that is not what I want...

there is no mud on mars and its defintely looking like it is mud.

also no gravity, the mud would just float around.

the sky and those rocks near the viewer could have more improvement

poor use of colors.

some of the frames of the comet got stuck

crozier (Level 5 Soldier) at 8/26/2012 4:52:51 PM

This is pretty fantastic...

user
Argyle (Level 5 Assistant Manager) at 8/26/2012 5:14:57 AM

Loving this, great job! The impact explosion is really well executed, and the rotating inspection is really fluid. Congratulations on consistently ending up in my favorites tab from piece-to-piece :)

Papermoon (Level 3 Enforcer) at 8/26/2012 1:52:07 AM

nice explosion XD

user
Yuran (Level 1 Rookie) at 8/25/2012 12:05:28 AM

My thoughts:
- "Umm, landscape - sucks"
- "oh, it's animated picture - nice"
- "some poor animation, but smooth ..."
- "What а... Holy Saints! Wow, very impressive!"
:)

user
Calv (Level 7 Assassin) at 8/23/2012 7:57:05 AM

@Carrion, nope, just some colours I picked, I don't have any set palettes or favourite colours, perhaps I should work on that more.

@DragonDelPlatino, the frame rate was actually set differently for many frames, but it hasn't come out as smooth on the internet as it was in the programme I used to create the GIF image, infact the frames from the explosion are almost all different, they progress from 10:100ths to 6:100ths as the ground gets closer, so it got faster as it approaced, I don't think it came out that way.

user
carrion (Level 5 Killer Klown) at 8/23/2012 5:48:51 AM

i like the palette? is it c64 based?

Haha that's wonderful!

user
DragonDePlatino (Level 3 Private Eye) at 8/20/2012 7:58:30 PM

The most amazingly smooth animation I have ever seen. What's the framerate...30fps? Also very atmospheric. I think this piece sends out a message that despite the curiosity science inticites about our world, it's desctructive power sometimes does itself in.

user
LachieD (Level 1 Depressed) at 8/20/2012 1:21:28 PM

 This is amazing!

user
EdJr (Level 6 Yonkyu) at 8/20/2012 10:35:09 AM

The animation is impressive, but I have to say that I hate the sky =p

user
Calv (Level 7 Assassin) at 8/20/2012 7:08:39 AM

Thanks for all the comments evryone, took ages and I rushed last night to get it finished in time.
@Jim16,  it was inspired by Wall-E and the Meteorite hitting was inspired by the terrible movie Armageddon.

user
Terrify (Level 3 Chief) at 8/20/2012 6:44:10 AM

Very very eyecatching I really like this one!

user
Jim16 (Level 7 Sheriff) at 8/20/2012 1:04:59 AM

Have you ever watched Wall-E? It gave me that vibe, which is awesome. I almost want to make a joke about Curiosity killing the...Yeah. haha

user
manxana (Level 2 Quiet One) at 8/19/2012 11:14:48 PM

user
_Connor (Level 2 Peon) at 8/19/2012 7:53:05 PM

So you're saying it couldn't just be a coincidence?

I love the idea and animation, but it all looks a bit too sketchy :\

user
RileyFiery (Level 6 SWAT) at 8/19/2012 6:59:08 PM

That is just awesome.

user
dianinhas (Level 2 Flatfoot) at 8/19/2012 6:05:19 PM

 WOW!!!!! THAT'S SO COOL!!!!!!

user
Danori (Level 1 Gangster) at 8/19/2012 6:05:12 PM

Its just a meteor hitting mars. Happens alot, look at its surface.

Although not as "destructive" most of the time.

user
philippejugnet (Level 5 Sniper) at 8/19/2012 6:01:51 PM

This makes no sense for me, I think if he picked up a rock and that was a button to explosion would make more sense...

user
JuninFC (Level 1 Gangster) at 8/19/2012 5:21:42 PM

Poor curiosity
