I love this style :D
I must say, it does remind me of mario quite a bit though. :P

whaaaaAAAAAAAAA so COOL! fav! i LOVE this style!

Nucleus (Level 1 Rookie) at 10/17/2007 12:48:29 PM
Another fine piece of art! I'm just digging the overall feel and the colors used. the whale although quite comical (love the smile) seems a bit off from the rest of the image's style. fantastic image nonetheless. and yes, Gamemaker is indeed an amazing program. GML however is a bit tough to learn but well worth the time spent.

Really cool style. Love the happy whale.

Please update with a link when this is a game!

I love the style in this.

Sea Boy? That looks freaking shaweet. If this is being made for a game, then I can't wait, til' this is released on the game.

looks quite nice.  One thing i would suggest though is smoothing out the black outlines a little.  they dont have to be a harsh 2px away from everything, you can make things mostly like that, then make them a little more attractive by adding or removing a pixel here and there on the curves and points.  I like this a lot.  The only other little bugaboo is that the houses look unfinished when compared with the rest :/

About this Game Maker.. Where can I get the Full Version? If anybody know, pm-me please.

Atooi (Level 5 Soldier) at 1/9/2006 7:46:57 AM

Hm, it is interesting that you say the deformed sun is a "tiny mistake", Twisted. I can understand that you may prefer a more symmetrical sun, but I like to think of the deformed sun more of a style choice, rather than a mistake. :)

Thanks for the kudos though, Twisted!

Regarding Game Maker, Wolverine, yeah I've used it quite a bit. I'm not a pro at it, but I can get a game's core bashed out. A friend of mine is a whiz at it. I still may need to hit you and your friends up for some advice though! :) Thanks.

Wolverine (Level 8 Brigadier General) at 1/7/2006 5:34:14 AM
I love the thick black outlines.  Reminds me of when I was a kid and drawing characters with a pack of felt tip pens.  Always used a lot of black outlines and I think that's why I like this a lot.  Takes me back to being a kid again.  By the way Atooi, how good are you with Game Maker?  Just asking because if you need assistance, I have some good friends who can do great things with the program and have created some of its most popular and succesful creations.

Twisted (Level 1 Quiet One) at 1/6/2006 7:49:50 PM
I've been staring at this for a while just because it's so great and I realised there is one tiny mistake, the sun is really deformed in the title screen, but it's easy to fix and not really noticable. I like how you colour coded the text. Items = red, actions = blue, b button = green. Even better than making one on game maker, you should try and get some people to help you make a gameboy advance rom out of this, whether or not it would make it to stores. And I love fat outlines, especially in games.

dr.feng (Level 1 Rookie) at 1/6/2006 5:24:26 PM
the outlines remind me in the old mac-icon style - looks great :)

Atooi (Level 5 Soldier) at 1/6/2006 12:27:04 PM

kwigbo, a flash game would be cool. I think I may just create a Game Maker version of it for the PC someday.

Game Maker is amazing!

Atooi (Level 5 Soldier) at 1/6/2006 12:25:27 PM

I am not offended at all, flaber. I consider all of the games you listed as greats.

To be compared to these games, or any Nintendo game for that matter, is flattering.

Cheers!

P.S. Another fat outline hater, huh? :)

kwigbo (Level 3 Hatchikyu) at 1/6/2006 12:17:52 PM
Would you be interested in having it made into a flash game?

flaber (Level 1 Seaman) at 1/6/2006 12:16:46 PM
this to me, looks like a cross between several different games.
the ingame play graphics looks like snes - yoshi island.
the map looks like snes - supermario all stars - super mario 3 (i believe)
the character profile reminds me of pokemon.

i would definatly play this game.
graphics are all smooth, and it seems to be inspired by highly successful games, so i see this going to be successful aswell.
dont mean to offend you if i did by comparing.

only thing im not a fan of is the thick black lines on the sprites.
great job again

Atooi (Level 5 Soldier) at 1/6/2006 11:55:16 AM

Hey, thanks Twisted, kwigbo and jmgandalf. I apprecite your kind words.

Unfortunately, Sea Boy will probably never make it to the stores for GBA. I may, however, make a Game Maker version for the PC - that'd be cool! :)

jmgandalf (Level 5 Detective) at 1/6/2006 11:29:39 AM
l love it, simply as that :D

kwigbo (Level 3 Hatchikyu) at 1/6/2006 10:56:58 AM
I love the fat oulines. The whole style you have is really cool. Is it going to be made into a game?

Twisted (Level 1 Quiet One) at 1/6/2006 10:21:04 AM
The only problem I have with it is that it might not be made.

Atooi (Level 5 Soldier) at 1/6/2006 8:57:58 AM

Hey, thanks for the kudos sensation. I appreciate it.

Happy you like it.

Atooi (Level 5 Soldier) at 1/6/2006 8:55:02 AM

Thanks Nomade.

Yeah, some people like the fat outlines, and some don't. I ended up going with them to give the game a slightly different look.

Nomade (Level 3 Private Eye) at 1/6/2006 8:44:07 AM
OMG! This is fantastic.. I love the style of it.. but the outer lines are too large i think.. You could make it cleaner, but anyway, i just loved it.

sensation (Level 1 Intern) at 1/6/2006 8:32:32 AM
wow this looks like lots of fun :P

i like the mario/pokemon map system and the backgrounds are just awesome!

great job!
