We're having some issues with email not going out for the forum notifications, the password reset and possibly other places.  If you get an error after posting a message in the forum it's probably related to the email notifications failing.

Not sure what's causing things to selectively bomb right now so it might take some time to get fixed.  I'll do my best to get it figured out soon.

Developer Metanet Software released a fun and unique 2D platformer some time ago where you play as a ninja (aka N) in a crazy, yet simple world containing 100 levels of platforming goodness.  The physics are very fun to mess with, especially in editor mode.  Likewise, you can easily build your own levels and play some great custom ones created by the large community.

This game has won plenty of awards, and it's easy to see why.  Visit Metatnet's download page and give it a try!

GameSpot is running a neat series of articles relating to what it takes to get into various aspects of the game biz.  So far there are articles on being a Game Designer and a Game Artist.

Is this dark picture of Spider-Man supposed to be the alien symbiote costume?  Only time will tell.

I popped by pixetees today to check out a shirt and noticed at the top of the page that the site is for sale.  If you are looking for an "in" into making some dough related to pixel art this could be it.

A few days ago Don Lucio of the Argentinian band MAUMA sent me links to his interesting retro videogame themed music video and website.  Even if you don't understand a bit of Spanish it's still an amusing experience.

this site has practically every game soundtrack you can think of original music, covers and remixes. I highly recommend the Katamari Damacy soundtracks.

Check it out!

"Pandora is a music discovery service designed to help you find and enjoy music that you'll love. It's powered by the Music Genome Project, the most comprehensive analysis of music ever undertaken. Just tell us one of your favorite songs or artists and we'll launch a streaming station to explore that part of the music universe."

The results have been announced after some laborious -- but fun! -- judging. Some exceptional works made it to the top, grabbing some prizes along the way.

And at the end, I realized I don't want to be in any of your dreams! (Freaks!)

Private messages will now notify via email assuming the recipient has the option to allow email notifications checked. Adding notification is one of those things that just took forever to get around to even though there wasn't that much work involved.  Hopefully all of you who asked for the notification feature will make good use of it.

We've also added a beta of the Pixel Joint member map using Google maps.  It's still a bit buggy, but the major features are working for the most part.

No discussion of pixel precision would be complete without mentioning this bizarre site.  Play an 18x18 version of Pong, Space Invaders, Pac-Man and Asteroids.

UPDATE:  It's actually got a lot more games than I first thought:  Pinball, Breakout, Tic Tac Toe, Footy, Life, Simon, F1, Maze and even more goodies are also available. Neat.

Bust out some funky beats Koopa style with this bitchin' Super Mario Brothers Flash movie. Too bad you can't save your grooves.

Sounds kind of like run-of-the-mill tech gossip, but once you see the multi-touch interface in action you'll do anything you can to bring it to your home.  Anything.

Rogers communications is suing their competitor Bell Mobility in Canada over ads that "disparage, denigrate, discredit, tarnish, diminish, and otherwise depreciate" its brand.  The cool thing is that the ads are done in animated pixel style!

Here's an article and here's the 'offensive' ad.

Who knew cartoons could be so upsetting?

This is a hilarious indie developed pixel art game based on Jack Thompson's proposal for a video game (in which a father gets revenge on the game industry which killed his son, obviously Thompson's cup of tea). If you don't know who Thompson is, he's the guy that put an Adults Only rating on GTA:SA because of the Hot Coffee mod. Thompson said that if any game developer creates the game that he invtented, he will donate $10,000 to a charity. Read about Thompson's video game and proposal here. And download the game here! The lead sprite artist is Derek Yu.

Disney plans to doll up the classic Pirates of the Carribean amusement park ride with new animatronic characters from the movies like Jack Sparrow (played by Johnny Depp) and Barbossa (played by Geoffrey Rush).  It's been a couple years now since they updated the Haunted Mansion attraction with The Nightmare Before Christmas characters and although I'm a big fan of the Tim Burton classic, some of the changes crappified the excellent design of the origninal ride.  I hope the changes to Pirates are done without butchering the original artistry.

Another interesting Disney tidbit... the Chinese New Year brought eight straight sold out days to Hong Kong Disneyland and a whole slew of pissed off people.  Some people tried dropping their kids and jumping over spiked gates to get inside the theme park. Freaky.  Here's a video of the chaos.

Some dedicated technology enthusiast in the Netherlands has nearly every freaking device in his home available for monitoring on the internet. Electricity, gas, hot water, security cams, washer/dryer, fridge -- even his toilets!

An interesting analysis of the various video game controllers dating back to the Atari 2600's clunky joystick. After reading through this article it's clear that Nintendo is the company that is leading the way in diversifying how we interact with our games.
