As you're probably aware, the Curiosity landed on Mars last week - so, we're asking you to pixel a scene showing what curiosities the rover might encounter whilst on Mars. The more far out the better.

You must also hide the Curiosity's pixel logo somewhere in the image - It doesn't have to be red, but it does have to be just one colour. Also, no flipping or rotating!:

Enlarged:

Canvas Size - Max 220 x 220.
Colours - Max 22.
Transparency - No.
Animation - Optional.

The challenge thread will have all the challenge updates. The thread is also a great place to post your WIPs.

In light of the recent server issues, there won't be a proper challenge this week. Instead, we are going to ask you guys to take on your own personal challenge - it can be whatever you like!

Some possible ideas to consider:

  • Take the first piece in your gallery and remake it.
  • Pick an old challenge you missed and create something using those restrictions.
  • Pick a form of pixel art that is outside of your comfort zone (eg. if you mainly create scenery, try making an animated sprite).
  • Make something using techniques that you have not mastered - or - avoid using techniques that you use often (eg. if you frequently dither, try creating a piece without any dithering whatsoever).
  • Use a style that you have never considered using before.
  • Create a piece that uses colours that you absolutely HATE.
  • Or maybe pixel something in celebration of Pixeljoint's 11th anniversary - which just happens to be today (well, at very least, it's been 11 years since sedgemonkey created his account.)

Keep in mind, this is NOT a weekly challenge, your work will not be voted on, nor does it need to comply with any specific requirements. These are just some suggestions for you to consider.

However, just like a regular challenge, there will be a thread where you can post WIPs etc...

So it appears the server is under control right now, but I'm going to check a few things out just in case. I was on a vacation where I was actually offline (can you believe it?) so you can holler at me for the inability to post the last couple of days. Pretty much the worst timing.

On a somewhat related note... PJ has a Facebook page (which feeds Twitter) and there will definitely be PJ mods besides me in there in the future in case this site seems unresponsive again.

Thanks for your patience and sincere apologies for the mess.
