Pixejoint seeks an update to the emoticon set used in the gallery and forum and invites all members to have a go at creating this set.
This project will have an open-ended deadline. We do however hope it doesn't take forever to find the new emotes.

The Mod team will be the ultimate judges but Community input will be crucial. We will run a community poll if the winner is not clearly obvious.

Below are the 39 emotes currently in use by Pixeljoint that will be replaced.

RULES & SPECS

• Submissions will include replacements for the entire emote list above. However you don't have to make them all right away. You can start out with a few and then add to them as you get feedback from others or you get time. You can always make a mini set to see what reception you get before making more emotes.
  

• Each smiley should be max 24 x 24 pixels.
  
• The width on some emotes in your set can be wider than 24 pixels if needed but please keep it reasonable.
• Emotes bigger than 24 pixels in height break the lines when used so please try really hard not to exceed this height.
  
• Not all emotes need to be animated, however, some beg to be animated.
• Posting your submissions with their ASCII counterpart is appreciated but remember that 'if you can't tell what it is, it's probably not a good emote'.
  
• Animation frames should be as few as possible.
• The winning emote set will be clear, readable, to the point and express the emotion...with pixel skills worthy of a pixelart site.
• No outer AA! - Emotes must be theme-proof!
  
• You may submit more than one emote set.
  
• You may submit smiley sets already in your gallery for consideration if they only belong to you and not a client or other site and contain all the emotes in the list above.
  
• All sets must be your original work and 100% pixel art.

BEYOND THE BASIC SET

• Pixeljoint/pixelart emotes may be submitted beyond the 39 emote list. Any extra emotes should convey the emotion clearly. For example, a fav'd emote is cool, but things like NPA, remove BG, Dithergasmic©, etc. are not because emotes are not a substitute for c+c.

SUBMISSION SPECS

• If your entire basic set submission is not animated you can post as a single sheet.
• If you have static and animated emotes then please submit them as sheets based on frame counts.
• Ultimately the staff will separate and create the set as single images so as long as you have room between emotes all is cool.
  

NOTES & UPDATES
It may be possible that as this activity gets rolling some details may need to change and these updates will be listed here.

• Please post finished sets only. Use the WIP section if you need help or c+c before submitting. You can however, post on this thread with a link to your WIP section thread until you are ready for submission.
  
• It may be possible that some of your emotes (winning contenders) will need some tweaking or technical corrections when this project ends. You will be informed.

Disclaimer: Submitting a smiley set on this thread is your agreement and consent in allowing Pixeljoint to use in the gallery and forum as we need without further consent from you. The rights to the smiley set chosen will belong exclusively to Pixeljoint but Pixeljoint will never profit from it by selling or trading. You will not be given credit whenever your smilies are used, duh. However, you will be credited and you may post it to your gallery and even use for self-promotional purposes outside of Pixeljoint. All smiley sets not chosen as 'the one' will remain 100% your property.

Ah sh*t, you guys are soo good at this and I thought I even had a chance. ;(

It's late and I'm tired, so I don't feel like doing the animated ones yet. I'm still missing a few static ones, too, tho.

Hello, my project here is something simple I'm not with time

A few more and some changes. Character looks a bit retarded, hehe...maybe it needs different eyes...not sure about the ears either (just wanted to mask the jagged circle) Dunno if I'll have time to finish a whole set...we'll see.

@all, remember there is no deadline. No one needs to rush to post in a hurry. Take your time. If you don't read the details and rules and stuff just read this bit:
'if you can't tell what it is, it's probably not a good emote'.

Hehe, first animation. I'm loving doing these!

Well Dusty, even if this was allowed... Is there a way to do semi-transparente animations? I heard of an animated png, but I don't have any idea how to make them.

Man.  You guys are good.  All these wips are quite impressive.  I'll be honest, I'm intimidated to even participate.  A lot of time and effort would have to go into this to be something worthy of pixel joint.
Jinn's are just awesome.  I can't compete with that.

There is no chance I am going to win anything so I am making those just for fun.
Well here are my smileys so far.

Jeremy: Their expression is great!
Juniorps: These are awesome. Small but beautiful and what´s the most important: readable.
DawnBringer: They are cute! They looks like small creatures with large faces and I really like that.
Jinn: They are probably the best looking one and they really made me say: "Wow these are best emoticons ever. The competion should end immidiately, because it´s got winner." But on the second glance, I can´t read nearly any of them and I have to ask "Well, does this one means this or this?". It then pulls them down. :( May be less details could do more work?

Well and now, my attempt for smileys (a bit older one), just a few smileys... Nothing serious and it surely needs more work, but at this time I just want to post it. : ))
