Hi, recently i've been really trying to get better at pixel art and actually finish a piece. Usually I make a rough sketch and give up, but with the help of Levaunt (Who gave me tons of crits! :3) I have managed to refine some work.

The pallet used was jsut an old one I may, but had the brightness bumped up a bit, so maybe some crits on that would be good.

Anyway, without further adieu, here is my work so far:

[EDIT] forgot to mention, it is only 6 colours [EDIT]

Sometimes things just slip through the cracks :B

The focal point is obviously the skeleton here, but that skull anatomy is very funky looking. The lighting is also very inconsistent.

Skull reference at roughly the same angle

Skull under various lighting at various angles

another from roughly the same angle with high contrast lighting

Yes, the skull anatomy could be improved. Note the protrusion of the maxilla, the width of the zygomatic arch esp. alongside the eye socket, the size/location/depth of the parietal bone, and the shape of the jaw as well as how it connects to the skull.

Composition and empty foreground also leave a little to be desired.

Lots of technical words  I'll try adn wrap my head around them!
I can see what you mean by the foreground and honestly I agree 100%. I think this is one of the reasons I give up, I don't really start off with a good composition, and then get bored/frustrated.

I was wondering, would this peice be any worth further developing, or should I attempt something with better composition and take this peice as a lesson?

[edit] I think I chose a pretty funky ref as well! [edit]

If your goal is to actually finish a piece, then finish a piece. You can always expand the canvas or move elements around if the composition isn't working. Just moving the skeleton to the right a bit would help a lot, the buildings in the background add more weight to the left side of the image so they need to be countered by weight on the right.

quick concept of an update, still need to re-do the anatomy of the skeleton; I'm not trained in art at all (just your avergae art classes in secondary school) so this anatomy stuff is almost alien to me!

Might also change the pallet...

For me I feel like at least change the colors of the font so it stands out a bit

I'm thinking of a complete re-vamp of the colours to give this piece a different feel. Also going to add some more colours. :)
