I love the idea for this. The pixel tech is great too, though.

Nice job the colors give off a very dark look which brings out the creepy feel of it, kinda remnds me of castlevania too.

I love this.  You have a good understanding of lighting from multiple light sources and varying lighting characteristics.  Nice Job!

@ Dra chan: are you sure about that? i thought i remembered having pretty free movement in LoM.  I havent played VP though...

Anyhow, it seems like a cool idea.  I especially like the textbox patterns.  One thing id worry about though is that its a little bit difficult to identify the character by his face graphic.  Not a big thing (like how lots of other  characters in games even change hair or skin color from face graphic to map sprite) but its just something i noticed.

@ Adarias: Valkyrie Profile was a sidescroller rpg, and also Legend of Mana ;)

looks very nice, i like the atmosphere created by the colors.  RPG? ive never seen a sidescroller rpg before (though maybe i just havent seen much :P)

Far out I love that forest scene. But I think the foreground colours are a little too rich in comparison to the background. Maybe try a more yellow leaf colour and grey trunk colour? I dunno, just my opinion on it...
