This was created about 15 years ago on an Amiga 500 using DPaint with a 32 colour palette.
The game (our own project), alas, never saw the light of day but there is a demo lurking around somewhere.

This screenshot was created by myself and my brother (Mike Oakley).

AndyOaks (Level 1 Rookie) at 8/30/2006 4:56:38 AM
Can't remember the exact statues we used as reference but I know we turned to the works of Rodin and Michelangelo's for inspiration.

Filax_666 (Level 6 Hitman) at 8/28/2006 3:00:37 AM
Jeez man, that is too beautiful...did you use any real statues for models or made that whole thing up?

space2 (Level 2 Flatfoot) at 8/26/2006 1:37:34 AM
Look man, if you keep posting images like this, you will get a lot of WOW resposes ;-)
Keep up the good work (or the digging from the ol' floppies ;-) )

Thanks for your comments everyone.

With Pixelblinks guidence I`ve ironed out the issues and I`m happy to say I got the green light to resubmit.

AndyOaks (Level 1 Rookie) at 8/23/2006 3:33:42 AM
I`m unable to supply WIPs of these pictures due to their age but I`ve posted a topic  at the below link that contains  my latest pixel art piece accompanied by a 102 frame WIP gif.

What a lot  of needless fuss and bother. I don't even think I could do that picture in Photoshop, well I probably could, but it would be far easier to do it in DPaint.

Why are people so defensive about what constitutes as pixel art? It never used to be like this, I guess we didn't have Photoshop then and it wasn't even in doubt if something was done in DPaint, that's all we had. Really makes me sad to be honest, feels like the era's been lost for ever.

AndyOaks (Level 1 Rookie) at 8/22/2006 3:47:27 AM
...this'll happen in the next couple of days.

I`ve got a lot to offer this site. Give me one more chance and you won't regret it.

I`m still a noob to all these new fangled forums and file formats so bare with me if I`m a bit clumbsy at the start. A gentle nudge is all I need to get things right.

AndyOaks (Level 1 Rookie) at 8/22/2006 3:44:06 AM
Out of interest pixelBlinks you mention that the authenticy of this work is in question.
Can you give me some clearer pointers to what makes you feel this way about my work.
You see, my style has a very photoshop look about it. This is down to the way I anti-alias my work (something I'll describe in more detail at some point). In a nutshell, I don't opt for crisp anti-aliasing as it can make an object appear flat. Instead I use a method mike and I came up with the 'puff up' the anti-aliasing to give a more natural softening to the image. It works by simulating the natural motionblur you get from real world photographs.

Like I said, I can dispute this to the cows come home but I can now see that I really need to start posting some proof supporting my work.

AndyOaks (Level 1 Rookie) at 8/22/2006 3:37:26 AM
It's just a matter of time before the WIPs are located and then we can lay this to rest.
On checking the GIFs again I`ve noticed they haven't been saved as 32 colour gifs.
The palette supports the 32 colour argument as it clearly shows a neat 32 colours at the top of the 256 palette with the remaining colours in black. I`ll rectify this and repost them once I`ve found the WIP pictures.

If I can't find them I`ll remove these old pieces and start replacing them with newer artworks with supporting history animations.
Hopefully, after a couple of new submissions you might allow me to resubmit these pieces again as the evidence of the new pictures should support the authenticy of these pictures.

Necky (Level 1 Rookie) at 8/22/2006 3:12:55 AM
Just one more thing. You say suspicion is high. Look down this page at the comments, it's the complete opposite. Thanks again to everyone that believes us, it's much appriciated. I'll give you the GBTC picture as it's a JPEG, but refusing this one is just not right.

Necky (Level 1 Rookie) at 8/22/2006 2:50:18 AM
It never even crossed Andy's mind about submiting this work as it seemed obvious that it was done in DPaint and we've never been asked to 'prove' our work is authentic before with an animated GIF or whatever (and I've worked for lots of different companies). They've always taken our word for it. The thing is, it's so obviously 32 colours, you can count them.

I think when this has all been sorted out we can help you with a few pointers on spotting a fraudulent piece of work, because I'm beginning to wonder how many other people you have wrongfully accussed as not pixel painting a picture when they have.

Necky (Level 1 Rookie) at 8/22/2006 2:31:17 AM
I've never been so complimented in my entire career! The fact that everyone doubts our work Andy is the highest  form of flattery their is. And that work was done like 12-13 years ago too! Thanks  pixelblink, you've really made my day

AlanDryhair (Level 1 Rookie) at 8/22/2006 2:01:01 AM
Hang on, the pallete IS 32 colours!!!!  That's why it was put back on here.

AndyOaks (Level 1 Rookie) at 8/22/2006 1:16:26 AM
I`m afraid I just don't have the original WIPs. As I`ve mentioned these images have been hard enough to come by as it is and have taken a lot of detective work to find them again in their original state.
I have a new picture I`ve been drawing recently that is up to the standards of these images (including the, recently removed, GBTC). I`ve also produced a 100 frame animation showing every step of the way showing that it was, indeed, drawn pixel for pixel.

If, when I post it, you could take a look and see that it was pixel drawn then would you concider reinstating the images that have been rejected?

As for the colour depth, are those new gifs I uploaded still coming out as high colour palettes. They shouldn't as I checked them both and they're using a 32 colour palette.

I`m really trying to get along on this forum now and fely I got off on a rock start so I respect your points and will try what I can to rectify the problems.

pixelblink (Level 9 Federal Agent) at 8/21/2006 4:20:15 PM
I already told you why this will not be accepted:
http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2739&KW=
please do not submit anything else until you do what is asked of you:
"I'm sorry but you really need to save your images as gifs. Your colour count is way too high for these images. Suspision is high and if you wish to have anything accepted into the gallery on the main site, you will have to prove your skills in the forums here by showing you work in progress from start to finish."

sinkquick (Level 1 Rookie) at 8/21/2006 4:16:49 PM
Awesome! I would have loved to play the actual game.

AndyOaks (Level 1 Rookie) at 8/21/2006 9:22:51 AM
