Not a great deal of creativity in this piece (this will be my next project) but I`m pleased with how it has come out all the same. I tried to give it a bit more of a hand-painted feel though as apposed to making a straight copy. All drawn using just a single pixel brush in 16 colours in Pro-Motion. Another comment has been made (jedzed) about anti-aliassed work looking 'photoshopped', which made me think...
When I started 'pixelling' in the late '80s, systems such as the Amiga and their rich pallette became a boon for artists, allowing 'antialiasing' to give the effect of straighter edges, and other effects. We used it constantly; and for this early period many of us didn't look back, less try to emulate the 'raw' limits of older 8-bit systems' graphics restrictions.
It's interesting as time has moved on we see more-and-more pixelled styles revert to the non-antialiased (aliased?) styles that artists had no choice but to use, but now use in anger - Metal Slug being the obvious example.
Do we think anti-aliassed work today, a technique that could once only be produced meticulously and skillfully by hand, has a lesser credibility now that such a technique (cheat?) is the bread-and-butter of modern art tools - even tools that are meant purely for pixel art?
Just a thought :P

I honestly don't understand why this is not the number one piece on Pixel Joint. You have easily fooled the eye into believing this is a black and white photo of a beautiful woman. I even had some buddies of mine look at this, they were all fooled. Th detail in the hair is jaw dropping, you really have major talent....I hope it's being used some where else as well, (where more people can see).

And you know, the funny thing is...You actually made her prettier than she really is! Fav 7/7.

You're right, that jawbone area is a bit on the rough side. I`ll take another look at it.

The dither pattern on the near side where it transitions from highlight to jawbone curvature is a bit rough, giving that portion a somewhat fuzzy texture...Also on the near side right under the lip it feels like the dither pattern extends down about a pixel or two too far...

Well spotted with the far side of the face. I hadn't noticed that but you're right it does appear a bit flat.

Could you give me some pointers on the dithering that could do with some cleaning up. I`ll sort this out whilst I'm fixing the far side of the face.

Very nice dither work, though some of it could be cleaner. Specifically on the near side of the jawline...My only real complaint regarding this piece is that her face appears very flat on the far side, though it appears that way in the photo as well...Simply amazing work on the hair btw...
