Commodore 64 IFLI (2003)

It's a copy (apart from the composition), reference images were used (from a magazine). I don't know who the girl is, but her sadness on the photos really moved me...

iv been watching your stuff quite abit lately
im very impressed with the quality and style that you have.
the composition and overall theme/mood of the picture is very nice

but overall i think the most impressive to me is how you used those 16 colours for everything.
very nice again
felt i needed to leave a comment - even though its not too constructive

Thanks for you comments. Ptoing is right, since the picture is pixelled on the real hardvare + TV set, you could only see the dithering in the zoom mode. A checkerboard-dithering results some kind of a flickered mix of the two colors, due to the interlace. And that's one of the negative sides of IFLI, as any other way of dithering than 50:50 will result visual artefacts on the "real thing". If you checked my other IFLIs, you'll see that the dithering-technique doesn't differs too much. It's a real pity I can't show to you how the picture actually looks on a C64, but... I reckon that as a penalty for painting in this lousy graphics-mode. ;)

Larwick, the thing is that this is an interlace mode. The image above shows how it is edited, not how it is displayed.

This is more how it looks on a real thing (plus a bit of flickeraction going on)

And because of this you can not really use dither as dither in this mode, the dithering actually creates middle shades and styledither your result in a mess.

Hmm, because of the contrasted hues and lightness of colours i think you could have done with using some better dithering techniques rather than 50/50. I think the circular dithering looks good on the face, but seems messed on the rest of her body (highlights).

I think the hair looks really good. And the piece generally seems to have gotten from a magazine ref to the pc well. Would be nice to see the reference, if you had a scanner.
