Preliminary disclaimer : I want you all to realize that this is my first attempt at creating computer-generated art of any kind, and my attempt at animating anything. So it's my "virgin" piece in all respects. Keep in mind as you view :)

Well here is the animation I originally used when I joined pixel-arts for the FAD. Actually there are many changes here--additions and subtractions, done to both cut down on file size and maintain a kind of flow...

Anyway there are a number of images here which took a while to create.

The mock "Please Stand By" screen I based on the classic one seen in the black and white days of television.

Then there's the color bar test pattern, again from the old days of TV. Do you see a pattern? :)

Ah then there's the Metal Gear Solid CODEC simulation. That one took a while to get all the technicals details correct and to get it compacted so it would fit 128x128. The animation took up quite a few frames due to everything that's going on.. the talking portrait, both "scanning" bars of light over the portrait, and the signal strength indicator. A lot of work for so short an animation.

Eh then there's the color portrait of myself which I must admit is pretty damn close to the mark. The original used over 100 colors but I dropped it to 16 for the avatar.

So hey - enjoy, cuss, and discuss at your liesure!

At your service,

GA

GA, I love your avatar. Although I get the impression from you on pixelation that you are new, you have amazing potential and your incredible creativity and witty personality will take you far in life.

Deviant Art? Sounds a litle fruity to me. :) I think I'll stick to this stuff here. Chortling usually means I'm in a jolly mood for future ref.

Hopefully the ability to take some criticism too. If not there is always DeviantArt.

*The above is said at risk of having mis-interpreted your chortling mood*

(chortling) Oh really, oh pixelicious oracle? What other hindsightful sins will I have the pleasure of perusing?

Well then I am truly impressed!
In the not too near future you will look back on this and see some errors in quality as it relates to pixelart, the lineart (some areas are not as clean as they could/should be), dithering (50/50) and AA (crude), the scan image animation (bit of trickery there).
Nevertheless this is most impressive. Welcome.

wow!!! what a first piece!!!!! really good

government.agent (Level 1 Rookie) at 10/6/2006 2:16:39 PM
Jalonso - your assumption would be incorrect. It really is my first attempt doing any sort of computer work. Now don't get me wrong, I'm an ink illustrator and I'm not too shabby at it--but I've been against computer-generated art for a long, long time. A friend recently helped me to really appreciate the process and the end results. So--I started trying my hand at it with a self portrait.

I will say that what you see here is the result of a lot of re-working and learning the software as I went so you're not seeing the ABSOLUTE first piece, as it were. But let's say I did all of this during my first two days learning to use the computer for anything but e-mail and surfing the web. :)

Fantastic. A superb mix of styles and animations, a fine addition to the fad and excellent first piece.
