If that last piece was nu-skool then this is definitely old-skool :> Lots of antialias and dithering. Also lots of colour-mixing (only 32 colours). Guess it's obviously inspired by the amazing work of Dan Malone on Chaos Engine. Can you blame me? My aim was to create a highly detailed tileset so the viewer can get lost in the details and die a horrible death at the hands of the ever-so-bad steam golem :D Also I was striving for a gloomier athmosphere.

looks good but did you know that chaos engine only used 16 colors! There was even more color mixing than yours. Even though amiga used 32 colors, 16 colors was used on the gui at the bottom. The main playing area was 16 colors including all tiles and sprites (probably for conversion reasons). Each world had a different pallete though (very similar but hue sat slightly changed for some colors). Dan malone was god.
Checking out your first few peices, turns out theres no crappier early peices in your gallery.dammit....I really like this, also how you've made the bot stand out in the scene.
LOL! Regarding contrast and such... Actually, after finishing the mockup i boosted the contrast of the colors. You WOULDN'T BELIEVE how pale the original was. :D I was actually looking for a subtler, moody effect, but I had to give it up in the end cause I know everybody's monitor has different settings. You just gave me idea for the next one, it will be ultra-cotrastey metal style! :D
OMG ! I love "Bitmap Brothers" games, and recognized the "Chaos Engine" style with the rocks and colors, without reading at first. Maybe more contrast contrast like Robotriot says. But great work !!! Can't wait to see more pics from you ! ;)
Cool, nice attempt at imitating the BMP Bros style, very recognizable. However, I think the palette lacks contrast, that would definetly help bring in the metallic look those games had. The brightness just seems to be a bit too evenly distributed over the piece.
