My very first attempt at pixel art. I read some articles on making shapes and then my boss gave me an assignment: make a full set of chess pieces 12x36. I think I was successful, being my first time. I can't wait to start making characters!

Hi, thanks for the advice. I got photoshop and was able to make the transparency. (I was using MS Paint .) I also reversed the white pieces to set the light source. Hope this is acceptable.
You should probably remove that green background and replace it with a transparency. As for the art, its a nice little set. I don't think it needed the dithering you gave it though. The details are a bit hard to make out on their small size.
